Experience of andoird head units vs OEM upgrade

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Have read a LOT of the forum articles on infotainment and the joys of upgrading. Just bought a lovely 2015 Octavia Scout but have the small screen with (I think) Amundsen MIB1). Another member Scount III has kindly suggested a carplay box that adds functionality but wonder if worth it if have the small size / resolution. Looking for people experience on the below:

1. Buy a replacement radio and screen with I assume come coded so plug and play - LINK

2. Risk one of the aliexpress head units. I don't mind paying a bit of a premium to keep OEM and not lose parking, car information & settings but wonder if people have experience of these kinds of thing - LINK

For reference this is my current unit in case I am missing something.

Direct answer, don’t go the Android head unit or box route.

Upgrade to official skoda unit with the help of @pab567.

Send him your vin number  and he will make it happen

Thanks @nickytheshaft. I had come to conclusion to save up and go the OEM route with PAB. Sadly just had some issue with the EGR system (new post coming) so looks like have to solve that headache first joy....

These egr suck big time.

This and the particle filters are part if the reason I always stay petrol.

The 2.0 tsi is surprisingly economical on the highway.

I just did 670km and had a few liters left.
