Sticky stuff on dash

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I had an air freshner stuck onto my dash for ages, and just decided to take it off now. It has left a gooey sticky mess, about the size of a matchbox on the dash. How can I get rid of this without harming the dash?

Cheers

I'd go with a light spray of WD40 on the affected area, then wipe the remains away. Can't see it harming the dash; I use this method for removing sticker residue from the paintwork.

"air freshener gunk" that old chestnut. ;)

I'd say something like wd-40, maybe even white spirit would be fine on the dash, then topped off with some dash restorer would be good for the whole area.

And be careful next time. ;)

White spirit will almost certainly discolour some plastics, and can even cause some plastics serious damage. It can break down the chemical chains on these things.

Try label remover which you can buy from maplin or similar. It is made by servicol and you spray it on then remove it with a cloth. That might leave a slight residue on the dash in that area which will dry out naturally over time, although is best attacked with a standard dashbaord cleaner after drying the most of it off.
