Help advice MAF

Featured Replies

Recently the engine check light came on My local garage has plugged into the ecu and its throwing up MAF sensor failure. I’m hoping to change the car in the next few weeks so don’t really want to spend money on it. Especially having recently spent money on the water pump my question is if I don’t replace the MAF sensor could more damage be done is it easy to replace the sensor and roughly how much are they to buy. The garage that diagnosed it will charge £140 to replace it. The garage have turned the warning light off for now I guess it will come back on? Thanks its a vrs don’t know if that makes a difference?

As it's part of the fuel system, I really would leave it to an expert to replace. But that might just be me. As for cost, I'd suspect an hour/90 minutes or so of labour, which would leave the part being somewhere in the £30-40+VAT region.

I guess you have 3 options... 1) get it replaced, 2) hope the light doesn't come back on before selling the car, and don't mention it to the buyer, or 3) be honest and upfront when selling the car.

Given the relatively low cost of sorting the problem out, personally I'd just get it done (again, as it's part of the fuel system, it'd be a no-brainer to me).

I would make sure they are checking the wiring and signals from the ECU before replacing. A lot of the time maf codes can be plausibility and be down to something else like air leaks, egr valves and O2 sensors etc.
