Wing mirror replacement

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've had a door mirror bracket broken and as mine is a L&K it has full options including heating and anti glare.

I've replaced it over the weekend with a standard door mirror but have now lost lane assist and rear view assist.

Trying to source a like for like mirror is difficult, cannot find one on ebay.

I was wondering, if only the bracket part is broken, is it possible to switch the wiring loom and all the other parts out.

If you look at the second photo I've managed to strip the mirror down. The part I'm stuck on is how to separate the two sections. The silver looking thing seems like it is screwed down on to a spring. Is there a way to take it off?

I'm trying to swap the brackets over.

Thanks

I didn’t know it was mounted in a glass section on the door, so does the replacement com with that section already fitted to the door mirror unit? Can they not be changed over, or is it glued in place?

Sorry, posted too soon. What I mean is the original unit does not appear to be that badly damaged, so if you could just interchange the parts, you’d be good to go.

Sorry, posted too soon. I’m thinking there shouldn’t be any reason why you can’t transplant the interior parts, motor, glass and wring, into the new housing. The dimming mirror glass is >£400 alone. 😳

Hi,

Thats the plan, to swap the parts over.

It's just i'm trying to figure out how to take the clip out that's sitting on the spring. I'm referring to the second picture.

It's the plastic bracket part that's broken on the original mirror.

Is there like a special tool I need to unwind the clip ?

Has that been bodged previous repair? That looks like filler all over it?

That was just a temp repair so I could drive the car back home. Just needs a clean up. I tried using silicone to try hold the mirror in place.

Still sat here trying to figure out how to take the metal clip off.

It looks like the silver part in your second picture has notches for a tool to engage with. You could make something to fit by grinding the end of a suitable sized socket.

After some more research it seems that the spring needs to be pressed down and the silver clip turned somehow. I've given up on trying to take the spring out as it's under alot of force and things can go horribly wrong, unless someone knows exactly what to do.

I'm going try glue the brackets together using metal epoxy glue and somehow reinforce it.

Good luck, just the mirror glass cost my insurance company £435

Hi

I've currently repaired my broken one using metal epoxy.

It seems solid.

Il try that first, see how it goes.

Thanks for letting me know, if my fix fails I'll pm you.
