Audio upgrade

Featured Replies

I have been inspired by the great reads on here to do some audio upgrades on my facelift combi from 2019. It have the Asmussen navi with Carplay from factory so just added a wireless adapter.
I wanted an upgrade that was small but still with a great sound so decided on a Match M5.4DSP amp installed in high power mode and a 10” sub in the familiar Basser subbox that goes in the left side of the trunk. I looked at various subs to go in the box and I decided to with the JL 10W1v3-2 as it fit the box volume and suits the amp well.
The first think to start with was sound damping. I looked alot on Ahifi and how they do. Plus their description is super good, just needs to be translated😊

More pics to come.

I mostly used 3 layers of damping. First layer is vibration damping butyl 2.3mm, second layers are sound insulation 6mm or 4mm in places where space is tight and third layer are noise absorbing 5mm or 10mm.
There are places where I only used 2 layers, under the back seat i used 4mm insulation on top,of the butyl. On the trunk floor i used Mass Loaded Vinyl as the tird layer.

You can add wireless connectivity so you don't need to use a cable?

Yes I use an adapter from Ottocast the U2 AIR Pro.

I installed the amplifier next to the glove box on the right side as there is plenty of room for it there plus wiring harness. I have pulled a 6mm2 cable from the battery and there is a solid point right next to it close to the right front door where a 6mm2 cable is also attached.
I researched several ways to connect the amplifier to the factory radio and ended up using the supplied wiring harness for the amplifier.

Then I put on the iso speaker plug myself and bought a Match PP-ISO 1 Plug & Play ISO cable to plug it into the car wiring harness. Looked at Match PP-MQS 1.4 Plug & Play harness and the Match PP-PAC92B harness which ones are both plug and play versions but I found that when you want the amplifier in high power mode, it is easiest not to use them. And I bought both 🙈

The cable for the subwoofer was made with the help of a colleague who is super good at the small molex connectors. I tried myself but it didn't work, something easier with the slightly larger iso plugs.
