1.4 diesel flywheel failure

Featured Replies

Hi all. My flywheel has started rattling and making noise a while ago and i decided to change it over the weekend. Been told first that i have got an SMF and given only the clutch to change. Once we took the gearbox off we realised its a DMF. Went and bought the DMF,installed it and everything was fine. The car run better than before. But,as soon as i got home and stopped the car the car won't start again. It will only start when the engine is cold. I am now looking to get the SMF conversion kit from Darkside Developments as i have seen on this forum that someone else had the same issue before. If  the DMF we installed on the car would be the wrong part,is it normal for the car to run and then not start when the engine is cold? Has anyone encountered this problem before? Should i be looking at a different problem with the car? My mechanic has done a few diagnostics and nothing comes up,no loss of power during driving or any other symptoms. Thanks in advance.

You couldn't buy the dmf in the past, the fix was a smf, ns driveshaft and an ECU remap. Surprised you got hold of a dmf for it.

No idea why they have sold a DMF. But we took of a DMF of the car. I am now going to buy the kit from Darkside as i couldn't find the conversion kit anywhere in UK. I am puzzled about what causes the engine not to start when its hot.

There was a problem with the dmf so vag converted them back to smf. Probably caught some wiring or crankshaft sensor when installing.

I have left the car heat up today and went for a drive around the block, less than 20 mph. Stopped the car and then started it again and it started alright. Maybe the issue comes up only after higher speeds. Would that be the crankshaft sensor?  There is no other signs during driving like loss of power or juddering.

If the mechanic has damaged the wiring or the sensor during install. Would that not come up during the diagnoses?

Check for fault codes with VCDS or similar.

I am taking the car over to someone the check it in VCDS today. I have jump started the car today when it was hot and it started like that. Which makes me believe this could be something electrical.

Could find you have an earth wire with bad connection.
