Kamiq Start Stop Issues

Most of the locked ones pertain to emissions etc that are mandated and therefore they are locked so we cant bypass regulations etc

Makes sense. Start stop is supposed to be to do with emissions, was used during the same time as cheat defeats on the diesels so a mixed (criminal) message from our dear friends at VW there.

  • Messing with the wiring in a car is never a smart idea. It takes all of a second to press the stop/start button after starting the engine and the stop start is properly disabled.

I'm in touch with my coding expert. Will let you know when I get a reply. It might be market specific.

For sure in the UK it is now impossible to change the stop start default behaviour. Definitive answer from a friend in VW. It will be same in many other markets. Then again pressing the button once the engine is started is not a big deal.

As has been mentioned anything built after 2022 and it's going to be unlikely that the coding can be changed.

Anything built 2020-2022 is going to be a lottery.

Just confirms what we have been saying for several years.

I have been able to "Reverse" the function of the auto stop start switch with this gadget obtained from AliExpress. On engine start up the default of stop/start system is OFF and you can activate to ON by pressing the button. Press again and its Off.

VERY easy to install and it works a treat.

We were talking about a coding change, which cannot be done on newer vehicles.

For sure there are gizmo's on ali express that can do what you have done, they probably also void your warrantee.

And hacking the factory coding does not impact warranty????????????

It takes just 90 seconds to fit or remove the aliexpress adaptor - my local Skoda dealer says NO warranty issues.

It's not a hack, the factory coding can be changed by any Skoda dealer, there are coding adaptions that are territory specific or in some cases greedy marketing departments want you to pay for something that you already have ( auto folding mirrors being a classic example.)

Could you tell us who your Skoda dealer is please?

A Manager, Service Person or a Technician can say anything. They are not the Warranty Provider.

But if they are not going to report Software or Hardware not Factory Standard or Approved if there are Warranty Claims then that is good.

Not likely they will put that in writing and with their name and job title next to it though.

So, after quite some time I left the car on the official Skoda dealership in my area and started the process for figuring out this problem. The car is still in guarantee so they say it has to go through the brand's process.

Battery was replaced, charged and recharged - same result. This is under guarantee.

The dealership now says it could be related with the telematic battery that needs to be replaced as well, but this is not under guarantee, so I'll need to pay the battery and work. Actually, they can't guarantee it will resolve the start-stop problem. It's getting a bit frustrated.

Does this make sense? Could this telematic battery be related with start-stop problems?

Saying it could be at fault suggest at least incomplete diagnostics. To me it sounds like they might just happy to fire of the parts cannon at your expense. Wouldn't there be warning lights or messages if the telematics battery was faulty? Or perhaps error codes or other diagnostics evidence.

Have they or you consulted VWŠkoda UK to see if there are known problems for this 12v battery for your model and/or age of VWŠkoda - thought often it seems the VWŠkoda and the Dealerships deny known problems anyway.

I remember a thread on Briskoda where IIRC a member changed some sort of back up himself on some model if I can remember or find it I'll post a link for you here.

Unless I've had yet another brain-fart, here from a very quick Google search, the following video was second in list and I give it just as an example to give you a general idea (ETA: of someone doing so diagnostics at least, note I stopped looking at the video at that point). - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRMd8SZ0DBg

My offixisl Skoda dealer here in Germany has replaced my telematics faulty battery for free after 4 years, under the extended 5 years warranty.

The telematics battery is a bit like the CMOS battery in a PC. It can fail but there is a process to check if is charging and you can determine this via the ODD port. Your dealer should know both the procedure for charging the telematics battery and how to check it's condition. OK, it's not something that is often needed but there is a documented process. As to replacement, ask them to show you where in the warrantee the telematics battery is not included.

Hey guys,

This problem was finally fixed by the dealership, just wanted to share an update in case it helps someone else going through the same issue.

So, as I said in the original post, I’ve been dealing for a while with a problem on my Škoda Kamiq 1.0 TSI DSG where the Start/Stop would activate, the engine would shut down, and then immediately restart (almost instantly).

  • Car stops → Start/Stop activates

  • Engine shuts down

  • Engine restarts immediately (almost instantly)

  • No warnings, no error messages

  • Happens every single time, even with engine warm and no electrical load

The dealeship went through a long diagnostic process, replacing the 12v (2 times) and auxiliary battery, to no avail.

After getting to the point where they have to ask Skoda for info and ONE MONTH later, the issue was finally resolved. I didn’t get a detailed technical explanation (typical…), but based on what was being investigated and how the system behaved, the most likely cause was related to the vacuum system.

Modern engines rely on vacuum (especially for brake assist). When the engine shuts down, the system checks if vacuum is stable. If there’s a leak or instability (e.g. vacuum hose / check valve), the car can:

  1. shut the engine off

  2. detect vacuum drop

  3. immediately restart the engine

Ask your workshop to check the vacuum system early in the process!

This might save you a lot of time, instead of going through batteries and basic checks first (like I did).

Hope this helps someone 👍 (and sorry for the GPT assisted post)
