Hi, it’s a fabia 1.9tdi, it’s @164k miles. I’m in the UK, I’ve had the car for 5 years and the engine and the bodywork are great but I think the sills (what’s left of them) are living on borrowed time :)

Hi & thank you!

It may depend on whether you are doing the work yourself or paying for professional labour.  You would probably be better posting in the 'Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)' forum for more detailed information and advice, hyperlink below.

You could if you wanted add more model details, such as engine type and size to your name plate to be seen by some but not all at each post you make as my example.

Thanks for the reply, I’ll have a look over there, cheers

I'm not familiar with the vehicle but that does look like a huge amount of work. Have you already removed the outer sill in that second pic?

The sills are unlikely to be the limit of it. Is the car a treasure?

Hi, outer sill is still on, it seems that there were a lot of layers which does show how well they were made, it’s not really a treasure, I do like the car, it never had any major problems, I did only pay £800 for the fabia and have driven it around for 5 years

A Mk1 Fabia is unlikely ever to become a valuable classic so whether is worth repairing depends on your attitude to the car - if it's just a means of getting from A to B then no, but if it has some sentimental value that exceeds its market value (probably a lot less than the £800 you paid 5 years ago) then maybe yes.

Two cars I've owned I now regret selling - a 1995 Renault 5GT Turbo and a 2007 Audi RS4 Avant - I now realise I loved driving them so much that for me they're worth so more than the market value.

It’s been a very reliable workhorse but looking around they have increased abit in value if I were to buy another one, I like that you can still get cheap parts for the old skodas, I have a Mitsubishi that’s the same year and it’s getting difficult to find parts

So what are your options VRipS? Are you looking at paying someone else to repair this?

Unfortunately, I think it’s going to end up in copart before the end of year, looks like the tunnel reinforcements eaten through aswell, and it appears the seat belts are bolted through this which would be a major fail point, it’s like this on both sides aswell 😞

Rust In Peace. Sorry to read but agree best decision. Good luck with disposal

Sorry to see this. I remember being reluctant when I first got my Fabia in 2008 about driving it in salty slush. I was the only one in our works car park with a bucket of water at lunchtime and people were saying 'cars don't rust any more'. I was reluctant to believe that and carried on with my car care (mocked by colleagues). All their cars have gone (most rust fails).

The engine on these definitely outlasts the car!

Sorry to see another Vrs coming to the end of its life. Please let me know if you decide to break as I am in desperate need of a front offside fog light grill and maybe a full bumper and fog lights 😀
