Black Magic Pearl !!!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone !

My concern is what kind of polish I have to use for the Black Magic Pearl, in order that the original paint have that pearl effect. Does anyone knows the best polish or the right one ?

P.S. a dog scratch my car hood :(

you can use any modern polish. Personally i use high resin auto glym polish and it shines the car a treat.

If you are looking to cover scratches, i have used turtle wax colour magic in black before and it has masked them very well.

same... turtle wax colour magic (and chip stick) then autoglym super resin polish then autoglym deep gloss protection resulted in this:

Now the golf had 117k worth of stone chips/scratches which left bonnet looking like milky way before i used the turtle wax below the autoglym layer.

ta evidence the stuff can work!!!

Same as ive the black magic vrs and some **** scratched the passenger door and the colour magic did a reasnable job until i can afford to have the door resprayed.

There are alot of jealous people about - its a real shame when i nice car or any car gets scratched! Trouble is black shows it up badly.

Yeah the chip stick is no miricle cure but does mask it when there is a deep sratch taken out of the paint.

Chip stick really is best for stone chips, but colour magic does a good job in hiding scratches a little.

The thing is the d*ck that did this did 15 to twenty cars all on the same street from old metro's to brand new focuses

Had used Auto Glym Super Resin for many years, but began to get fedup with the dust and the fact that it is an abrasive polish as well as a wax! So swapped over to Dyna Glaze One Grand Blitz Wax. This is just a wax (no polish & no silicone so no problematic build up) and is hard work to use, but produces a stunning "wet look" on Black Magic Pearl. It doesn't last as long as Auto Glym (IMHO), but does look good!

However I always like to try different products and have (on recommendation from mates who still concours cars) bought the following to try: Meguiar's Clear Coat Liquid Car Wax & Bilt Hamber Auto Balm (they also do an Auto Clay to remove grit particles prior to waxing).

Neither were cheap, but the Bilt Hamber comes with an aplicator & stockinette! Will give them a try over the next few weeks.

My criteria will be depth of shine, durability, lack of swirls, ease of use & lack of dust! So I can let you know how I get on if it would help!!

Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine is more suited to darker cars than the normal Super Resin Polish. When you do apply this, to keep the polish on the car longer try using Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection. This will stop the polish coming off as quickly whenever you wash the car. It also makes cleaning the car easier as particles don't stick to the surface as easily.

Is autoglym notorious for attracting dust for some reason? Was thinking my car was looking dusty almost as soon as it was driven out of the showroom because it was black - perhaps the products the dealer uses had some impact...?

Most recent comparison tests I have read, suggested that Autoglym Silicone Resin Polish produces a fair amount of dust, add to that the static you generate when polishing & there you go! It has been around a fair while (I was using it 16 years ago when doing local concours events) but that's not to say it doesn't do a good job.

The dust, the fact that the polish itself can leave swirls in the paint (because the polish hasn't been fully removed) & the problems associated with silicone build up caused me to look elsewhere!

I will see how the Mequires does when I wash and clean this week and if the Auto Balm arrives, might even do a half & half comparison! :D Of course this could all prove to be a very expensive experiment that proves nothing!!

Just done the marathon car washing/waxing session, both my vRS & SWMBO's Fabia. Auto Balm not arrived yet, so just used the Meguires Gold Class.

IMHO it knocks the old Silicone Resin into a cocked hat in the reducing swirls stakes, produces virtually no dust at all and the metalic pearl just glows and reflects every colour:thumbup: , however it's doesnt seem to be as good at removing bug squash or other organics:rolleyes: . Probably because it is less abrasive! Guess thats why they sell that stuff!!

Anyway will see how it does over the next few weeks, but so far very happy with it on both Black Magic & Nature Green, both difficult colours to keep looking good!!:D

Just my 1/2p 's worth,

I have recently been using Turtle Wax nano-tech wax, reasonably cheap (3 for 2 at halfords) followed by muc-off stuff.( not cheap at 11.99 a tin)

Very impressive, and easy to apply/remove.

I woluld post pics. but I am not a poser........

Ask Andy2407, if he is sober, what my car looks like after a week without washing...

Kiddies crayola wax crayon makes an excellent job of colouring chips and scratches, and you can colour match to your car rather than just a generic shade
