Child lock error on replacement door lock

Featured Replies

I replaced a rear door lock on my 2018 Superb L&K, and now the electronic child lock is permanently engaged. An error is displayed on the dashboard if I press the button to disengage the child lock.

Does the car need to be re-programmed to accept the new lock, or did I buy a lock without the electronic lock facility?

What was wrong with the old one?

Did you buy a new or used part?

Was it genuine or aftermarket?

Was the part number compared to the old one?

Have the fault codes been cleared?

Has the live data been checked?

Sorry for the late reply - I've been away.

What was wrong with the old one? - It wouldn't lock.

Did you buy a new or used part? - New

Was it genuine or aftermarket? - aftermarket

Was the part number compared to the old one? - I don't remember.

Have the fault codes been cleared? - No

Has the live data been checked? - I don't understand

Have you got the link to the one you purchased?
and have you got your vin number, ill check if you ordered the correct one.

Hi - thanks for your reply.

This is the one I bought: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/spares-search?keyword=VEMO+V10-85-2281+Door+lock

VIN: TMBBD7NPXJ7570916

So the link you provided has the following compatible part numbers: - It also doesnt have the child lock function - safelock is something else.

OE 5E0839016 — VW

OE 5K0837350B — VW

OE 5TA 839 016 K — VW

OE 5E0839016B — VW

OE 5TA 839 016 P — VW

OE 5G4839016 — VW

OE 5G4839016C — VW

OE 5NA839016 — VW

OE 5NA839016B — VW

OE 5NA839016D — VW

OE 5TA 839 016 D — VW / AUDI / SKODA / SEAT / VAG

Whereas the parts catalogue for your car lists the following as compatible for the rear right:

5TA839016H

5TA839016N

5TA839016T

So id say that it is the incorrect part, but fault codes will also need clearing after replacing it with the correct one.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I wonder what the differences are between the three parts you listed as compatible?

This one's part number is A6T-5TA 839 01 6T.

Do you reckon this is the right for my car? It's half the price of a new one.

Spot on, that will work perfectly

being from a 2021 onwards car means it’s fairly new still so I’d get that at half the price of new.

Thanks for all your advice.

I too have an error message, “electronic child lock” when turning ignition on, I had rear left door lock replaced after the door wouldn’t open from inside, new lock works fine but error or warning flashes up on dash, car is a 2022 superb 1.5 tsi hatchback and the new part number is 5TA-839-015-T Genuine part from

TPS, all faults cleared but error still there and no faults showing up on scan, any ideas please

Did they fit the correct version for your car? The one you have looks like the basic one without the child lock motor. I made the same mistake. The basic one was about €70.00, the correct one was € 240.00 !

I don’t know, I paid £250 for it, I gave the TPS the registration number when ordering it, I’ll check with mechanic if part numbers match

The problem seems to have sorted itself out after using the door switch to activate and deactivate the child locks a few times, so maybe it’s reset itself.  Here’s for input it’s much appreciated
