Because the main ECU thinks there is an issue with the airbag. You need to use a code reader to find out what the issue needs, and then software like VCDS or OBD II to reset the latched error.

The airbag (SRS) light will come on and stay on when there is a fault in the system.

You will need to take it to a garage for diagnosis to see what is faulty and for them to repair.

Having the car serviced a few weeks ago will have nothing to do with the airbag light, as the system is so sensitive that if they had damaged something, it would of came on straight away.

Often caused by  disturbing the wiring or connectors under the drivers seat. Did the garage vacuum clean the carpets?  But, as said, even if you find a fault and fix it, you will need the correct software to unlatch the fault display.

It is usually the plug that goes into a socket on the seat frame. it is roughly in the centre or slightly forward.

Mine was a broken wire where it feeds from the front wing in to the drivers door

Yep, mine frayed in the driver door hinge from normal opening & closing. The crash sensor in these are in the driver's door so throws an SRS light.

Thank you guys for comments . The diagnostic revealed that the wire had been "broken "but at moment where, all was ok under the seat so will try the hinge area.

Just had a look and yes the yellow wire is broken but how did you join the wire as it is so small a place to get my hands in.

Thought I should note that all has been done, ie yellow wire broken , took ten minuets and guy only wanted £20 and that was with diagnostic where he cleared all faults. Mt Skoda dealer wanted £80 for test £15 for curtsy car plus mending the break. I did ring them and told them of what was wrong but they insisted on doing a diagnostic test first.
