Removing non locking part of door handle

Featured Replies

Hi all. 77years old and still get caught out and cursing the job. Can someone please tell me how to remove the part of the front passenger side door in my image of the handle so I can release the cable and remove the lock. As you can see I have already damaged and butchered the surrounding paintwork. I am at a loss. The lock is hanging in the door but I can't remove or hope to refix the cable from that end. Surely this part must come out.  There are no screws to remove in either of the two small holes used for a key locking door handle.

Very grateful for advice please.

If you have a look on youtube for how to do a mk4 Golf one, it's pretty much the same. I'd try to explain it on here, but it's one of those that makes so much more sense in a video.

Hi again. Have looked at some of those but it still talks of a T20 screw. No screw appears to exist in either of the holes  behind the grommets. The upper one appears  to have just the outer casing of the insert I am trying to remove and the lower one has just a hole but no screw is apparent.

Thank you anyway for taking trouble to reply to my post.

It's been a while since I've done one, but I remember thinking a similar thing myself. From memory, the screw isn't central in the hole in the door. I think as you're looking at it, it will be at about the 7 o'clock position. A screwdriver bit in a holder won't get on it.

I bought a low price set of torque drivers off Amazon and they came today. With a lot of fiddling I located a screw head that was not even visible with a torch and easily undud the 12 turns. With only gentle leverage I was able to remove the plastic plug piece. What joy! I could hhdn remove the lock by releasing the operating wire from the handle. Thanks for your guidance.
