Skoda Felicia Abs Retrofit

Featured Replies

Seeing this video at minute 6:11 I was utterly impressed.
And I am interested in seeing if I can perform an abs retrofit on my felly.
Has it ever been done?
Does it involve cross-communication with the ECU?
Is it a standalone unit?
Can someone give me some guidance?

Seeing from the part diagrams, pretty much all components are abs bespoke...
I reckon the best approach would be an abs donor vehicle while sending the unit to be reconditioned.
Most if not all of those parts are NLA.
I still feel that it can be done if it doesn't involve messing with the wiring looms and its running on a standalone loom.

It is possible and has been done.

And it's something I've been looking at doing for over 5 years, and the process was speeded up by an accident last year. I've only just this week finally got all the parts needed, after searching for so long.

ABS is standalone, only thing is that even though the system is separate it's wires are combined in the cars main loom, for example the front right sensor wires go from the abs pump/ECU  next to servo in the engine bay back into the car behind dashboard at the left, across the car behind the dash, then back into the engine bay on the right side.

So you would need the loom from a donor aswell.

Or you could create your own mini loom just for the ABS.

Other parts needed are:

Front hub carriers (although standard ones can be reworked, it'd be cheaper to use donor ones)

Brake servo

Master cylinder

ABS pump + mounting bracket

Rear brake backplate

Rear drums

ABS Sensors

The previously mentioned wiring loom

Also depending on which model you have the rear axle brake pressure limiting valve may need removing.

So I also need the new lines.

I think I will proceed by finding a donor vehicle to find the loom strip it down so I can de pin the connector going to the dashboard and have it as a complete standalone unit because I have to find a donor vehich with an alarm as well which is going to be a nightmare.

The 2000 was last year that Felicia was sold ''New" here in the official dealership there was the GLXi edition (had heated seat among others) with Airbag + ABS together.

Maybe in 1999 was sold with airbag or Abs separately.

highly possible

As for historical purposes another ''irrelevant post":

September 5 marks 30 years since the start of production of the Skoda Felicia. When introduced in 1994, the Felicia was an improved version of the Favorit, which it succeeded in the Czech brand's range. Although it was based on the Favorit, I brought in 1,187 new parts.
30 years ago, a compact family model had dimensions that we find today in city cars. The Felicia reached a length of 3.85 meters, being 4 centimeters longer than the Favorit. Also, the luggage space was larger by 21 liters.
Skoda's goal with the Felicia was to offer a car that was more beautiful in design, safer and with a better quality interior. It was the brand's first model with ABS, while it was equipped with up to 4 airbags, air conditioning, power steering, trip computer and height-adjustable front seats.

Someone has done it in the past.

Solid metal brake lines? The standard ones can be used and bent to correct positions, and the rears joined if needed. Of course you may feel safer having no joints in the lines, and use donor, or newly formed ones anyhow.

I haven't got fully into the loom yet, but the majority of ABS wiring can be un spliced and used stand alone, but there is 1 wire to obd port, and 1 to dash warning lamp (if wanted. Also you will need to connect into a current; live, switched live, and earth.

I do believe that there were more Felicia's on the continent with ABS than here in the UK.

In fact at one point I was trying to purchase the servo unit from Greece, untill seller decided that postage to UK wasn't worth the trouble.

Donor cars with ABS still can be found here in Greece.

Metal brake lines are good for safety and durability, firmer pedal feeling in Sport driving.

If i remember correct, i asked for a price for installing ABS and airbags about 2 years after i bough my Felicia and the official dealer and they told me 700 euro.

Not sure if was purchase only and not fitting but for such an amount i lost my interest.

yes, that would be the reason why i would lay my loom outside the car and start unraveling the mysteries beneath.

That would ideally mean switching to a different fuse block, or at least inserting pins where needed

Don't take that amount for granted, was 22 years ago.

You have to collect all the parts (new or used), harness, lot of brake fitting work plus the cost for the programmer.

Since not all the parts are factory-new and for such a crucial sector it's a gamble.
