Adding Maps and Reversing Camera

Featured Replies

Hello,

I've just joined the Skoda gang with a 2017 Octavia SE Estate.

From the head unit info I have a 5Q0035842C.

I'm struggling to find the information I need on the forum so apologies if this has been asked before.

I would like to know a few things:

  • Can I add maps to this unit so I don't have to do it through my phone?
  • Can a reversing camera be added to this unit?
  • If so what kind of reversing camera do I need (links appreciated)

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm sure someone far more knowledgeable will be along to help shortly but i'll try my best now,

  • I'd say it depends on the unit, can you use apple car play/android auto? i know most people do, i updated my maps and software a few months ago as its not included in the warranty apparently and is a £150 charge from skoda
  • yes! i've recently done mine (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000230897829.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.40694c4dTEPT93) thats the one i have, you'll have to measure your boot handle to check and get the correct size, below is Weylands thread on fitting it, really useful helped me A LOT! there is another camera but that has more wires and has to be coded afaik, seems very out of my wheelhouse so the one i've linked, and is referenced a lot in the below thread, is plug an play and works really well!

Do you have a NAV button? If you do then I "think" that's a MIB2 Amundsen?

An Amundsen needs the correct maps on a Skoda/VW SD card (NOT a normal SD card) which is inserted all the time.

You can add a reversing camera, there are two versions - a basic one which just shows the view when reversing and a high spec one which shows trajectory lines and comes with a CAN bus connected module.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't have a Nav button.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a measure later and see which one I need.

I've ordered some removal tools for the head unit so I'll be able to get a picture of that soon.

You can't add maps to an infotainment that doesn't have the software and hardware (GPS antenna), you probably have a Swing.

Just to add to this, mines the "basic" one from Aliexpress, it has the trajectory lines that move with the wheel, the advanced one can have the parallel parking, wide angle and towbar views coded in, far too much for me to be bothered, i just want to double check the bush I'm reversing against is actually a bush and doesn't have a sneaky post hidden in there 🤣

The camera arrived and I tested it and it works. Just got to run the cable now 🙌

The head unit says Nav on it. Any ideas if I can add maps? It has 1 SD slot on the front and as mentioned previously no Nav button.

It actually says /Nav - which means no Nav (the / means without).

Ok that makes sense. Thanks!

I got the camera installed today. Wasn't too bad most annoying bit was the lack of room behind the head unit.

Is there anyway to adjust the lines?

I'm not sure if it's because I've got an estate but the lines appear off a fair bit. Still better than no camera but would be nice if it was lined up.
