Repetitive failure to start

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2011 Skoda Yeti 140 4x4. Very lovely it is too. Just had a full service and new glow plugs, new battery which I thought would solve a starting problem we have but no luck. It always starts whatever the weather and temperature but if we do numerous stop start shopping trips around town where we might drive to several stores and park for 30 minutes or so we have problems starting the car. It starts and then cuts out. Takes four-six attempts before it catches. Mileage is 125k and has always been very well cared for and serviced regularly.

A mate with an Audi Q5 of same age and mileage has had injector issues and thought it might be the same problem.

Any thoughts or similar experience would be most welcome.

Not much help, but I was watching a you-tube "short" and the young asiatic lady was expert in getting cars running.

Bad starting was dealt with with minimum tools and a little cleaning very quickly.

Perhaps worth a search?

Sounds like you need to have a full diagnostic test done.

Try and find all fault codes.

Hi

If fault codes don't answer the question, I would start by getting the fuel pressures checked.  It sounds like the pressure after starting may be dipping below the minimum threshold for whatever reason.

A second possibility is a crankshaft or camshaft sensor, which can exhibit heat-related intermittent failure.

@Dublin This sounds like a case of the VW tdi warm start problem (google it).

Usually .... it turned out to be a duff battery as the car won't start until (from memory) 300rpm is achieved by the starter.

Under this figure the ECU doesn't put fuel in the engine, so it won't start whatever you do with it!

I'd check the state of your battery in the first instance, and put a quality diagnostic on the car to see what else is going on.

Sounds like an immobiliser problem, as others have suggested a VCDS (or equivalent) scan would reveal any problems like that.

Do you really get taken in by nonsense like that with AI voice-over?
