Superb SE Tech PHEV - can I replace the Infotainment with MIB 2.5?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

about to pull the trigger on a Superb Estate PHEV SE Tech 2020 purchase.  I'm handing back my Enyaq Coupe VRS and am feeling rather rough about the move to the smaller display, and am considering swapping out the standard MIB 2.0 with the MIB 2.5 fully touch screen.  I've found plenty of them on eBay to purchase, but need to understand if the donor vehicle has to also be a PHEV or will it not matter?  Thoughts, (and prayers! :D) welcomed

thanks!

Joe

The smaller 8" MIB2 Columbus screen (with buttons) will definitely NOT work on the MIB2.5 head units, or in ur case - MIB3 either.

Right sorry maybe i've not explained myself.  the version the car comes with has the two physical dials on either side of the screen, with a smaller usable screen in the centre.

I would like to swap this out for the more aesthetically pleasant (IMO) and larger usable screen, that i believe is the MIB 2.5? Maybe it's the 3.0 and i've gotten confuse.d

Ah yes.

U can read the guide I created then.

I upgraded the 8" MIB2 screen to a 9.2" MIB2.5 screen, and did a firmware update of the head unit to MIB2.5.

That's brilliant thank you.  Should I anticipate any issues with it being a PHEV?  i'm just thinking about the e-manager element of the infotainment.

Hang on. Pretty sure the phev superb comes with mib3 unit. Do we understand the compatibility with the other systems? Eg. Within mib ecosystem you can swap around screens almost as you like. Mib2.5 is similar but less free. Mib1 you cannot swap screen sizes without changing the main unit.

What do we know about mib3?

@MarkyG82 - good point.

The 2020 PHEV is an MIB3 unit.

@joeslaughter - don't follow my instructions.

I don't know the different MIB3 screens & units - so I can't comment/advise.

Ok so maybe it's just the screen that needs changing?

This is the unit in the car

I'm wanting to replace it with the better quality screen that has no physical buttons at all.

Best bet is to look up other phev superbs and see if other screens are available. Then try and find those part numbers on eBay etc. if it works then great. If not then worst case you've spent some money. Best case you can sell it on again.

To clarify, mib2 screens are cross compatible with no coding needed. It's possible that mib3 is the same.

just to clarify, talking Columbus range here.....

MIB2 (8" screen) will ONLY work with MIB2 units.

MIB2.5 (9.2" screen) will ONLY work with MIB2.5 units.

MIB2 units (Harman) can b converted to MIB2.5, so you can retrofit a 9.2" screen and/or Virtual Cluster.

Once converted, the 8" screen will NOT work with the MIB2.5 unit.

With Amundsen or Bolero range, i'm not sure of their inter-compatibilities.

So I ended up getting a PHEV se-L instead of the SE tech, though not sure it makes any difference to the infotainment.  the unit is the same as pictured above, and i already (within 8 hours lol) want to change it.

the Sportline and the L&K model have the screen i want, if that's too painful to replace i may look at an after market upgrade to a non-oem screen to make me feel better about losing my Enyaq VRS :D
