Hesitating then surging...

Just bought 3 weeks ago from an independent dealer. It's Immaculate inside and out, literally 'as new'.

I've had an error message pop up while driving a few times now 'error, workshop.' It clears before I've had chance to read it all.

Also, not sure if it's related, but I get hesitation and surging at slow speeds. Whilst in slow traffic, or reversing onto my drive. It also happens when coasting up to a roundabout, and I re-apply the accelerator, it pauses, then surges forward.

I've been driving 40 years, mostly autos, so it's not my driving or throttle control.

I got a basic warranty with the car. I have contacted them and they have asked me to get a diagnosis done and email it to them. They did say use a local garage, 'Not Skoda Dealer'. I've got mobile RAC coming tomorrow.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem.

Thanks

I've found new model (2024 Leon, Arona and... Karoq?) courtesy cars to be unbelievably slow and dim-witted, then suddenly drop three gears and take off after an extra mm of pedal press. That said, I previously had a 2016 1.4 Leon (manual) and never saw anything like this on the groups - the DQ200 box is normally very good.

First port of call is a code reader - see what that workshop message is about.

Welcome to the forum @SteveStreet.  Its worth checking the car over and its also worth getting an ODBEleven dongle so that you can properly query the car and find out what its unhappy about.

I would be checking: EGR valve isn't blocked up with soot.

When was the last time you had the sparkplugs done (thinking misfires / failing coils)

Try running a tank of super unleaded through the car and take it for a sprited run.

Other things that I'm also thinking: Can you listen in neutral at idle and listen for any metalic clanking sound?  If's that so, it will be a Dual Mass Flywheel beginning to fail.

Whilst the DQ200 box (6 or 7 speed) - is generally a good box, make sure there isn't any recalls and whilst it is meant to be a "sealed for life" box, get the oil and filter changed on it. Also check the fluid pressures on the box (DSG boxes are very sensitive to low fluid conditions)
