Turbo cassette 1.6 tdi

Featured Replies

Hi

My shaft snapped in the turbo cassette this week.
I’ve got a new cassette, is it a case of just replace and go or does it need anything else?

has anyone else done one?
Any info / insights greatly appreciated

many thanks

I think I have another issue somewhere.

one side of the shaft looks like a nice clean and clean break. The other side (exhaust) looks like it’s been broken along time. One of the bearings for the shaft is missing too.

the car went into limp mode with the p0299 (whatever it is)  boost pressure low code and think possibly finding the cassette knackered is coincidental. Maybe ??

Would a faulty actuator be at fault to cause all of the above ?

All these parts are being replaced so why does it matter how badly the old CHRA is damaged or what's missing?

Just rebuild the turbo, refit it and the engine should start boosting again.

I would be praying that any missing parts haven't managed to find their way into the engine.

The missing bearing on the shaft was on exhaust side 🤞 so far it’s back together and alls well 🤞🤞🤞

The engine would not have developed any boost with one impellor shaft sheared, the other with broken vanes (presumably) and a missing bearing, it would not have been spinning at all.

A photograph would make things a lot clearer.

They can't, the intercooler traps bits from the cold side and the exhaust cat traps bits from the hot side.

No prayers needed.
