Octavia 1.6 dsg jerking when cold

Featured Replies

Hi there. Bought a late 2017 1.6 dsg octavia in August this year. First automatic /dsg iv had. No real issue till yesterday morning. Started up fine in park then gave a bit if a shudder as if under pressure to take off as parked facing up hill. Drove I suppose 200 m stopping at junctions in estate and t junctions. As I took off each time and I'm easy on peddle the car done a bit more jerking / jumpy similar to selecting incorrect / too high a gear facing into hill so engine struggling. This behavior lasts about 3/5mins of journey and car is struggling but then it eases off and disappears fir rest if the journey accelerating no problem. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Told its a sealed gearbox and hence no need for oil change. But then told also that every dsg should get oil chenge.

Thanks

All DSG/Mechatronic oils need to be changed. No oil lasts forever however much VW/Skoda might have you believe.

An oil change is far cheaper than a new clutch pack which is another possible cause of the judder.

But it last 6 years, but we do not know how many km the car / dsg has done.

Plenty running the oil that was filled in the factory from 2009/10 or what was put in at the Service Campaign in 2014.  So a decade ago.

@Mkgbest have it checked for fault codes.

?

How many km has the car done.

Any record of anything having been done to the DSG like some incompetent changing the oil?

Are you changing both oils @Gammyleg  or is it you having others do it.

178000km on clock. Nothing that I can see of oils being changed for the box. Getting a local garage to change the oil Monday in the gear box and if that isn't the resolution will move on to the clutch. Process of elimination to be honest.

@Mkg  Are they familiar with DQ200 DSG,s ?

So - formally the DQ200 gearboxes don't need any servicing, but Skoda want you to break your car so you can go buy another one from them.

So - servicing a DQ200 box is a thing, but not on the formal schedule for servicing.  If you don't care, carry on - use it until it breaks.  If you care mechanically, then there are rebuild kits which require hydrolics and gear oil as well as the usual pletherer of filters etc.

A specialist VAG dealer can help you and a Skoda Garage would do it for you - if you asked.

Thanks very much varaderoguy for that info. It is much appreciated. Im on the case. I always believe prevention better than cure so Ill  be getting it done ASAP. Monday. I don't like driving ifs it not reliable or damaging the car. Thanks alot.

@varaderoguy   Where are these pletherer of filters going to be used?

Did I say Pletherer....I probably meant "a - single - one" filter.

Best you leave well alone if you do not know your DSG,s.

Thanks to all of you. Very much appreciated. It's nice to be able to ask a question of others and get a straight honest answer or  sound advice. I'll update this once I get done with the work.

Forgot till now to update this. Got the filter and oil changed on the gearbox by a local garage just befire Xmas and it seems to have sorted the issue.

I don't think there is a filter associated with the gearbox, only the Mechatronic unit has a filter which is internal and would require dismantling and reassembly to replace. Was this done as well?

If I was to tell the truth I don't exactly know but can find out. I'll ask the lad in the garage. Pretty sure there was a filter involved but honestly don't remember.

If they are open I'll ask them this evening and update ok

Called to the garage other evening and they confirmed yes there is a filter on side of the gear box and was changed. The guy is Romanian and nearly dismantled the car to show me eventhough I only called to confirm what I thought had been done.
