EFB or AGM? - 2015 Polo GTI

Featured Replies

Mrs Gaz's Polo has recently been exercising its EPC light.

Just had it checked and the battery's at 38%, 460CCA when it should be 650.  Can't complain as it is the original, so nine years old.  Full car scan completed and no other faults 👍

It's a Banner EFB battery.  I was thinking about changing to AGM, but then if this one's lasted nine years, maybe 'upgrading' to AGM is a bit pointless?

A Varta 096 AGM from ECP is £290, but I can get a Varta 096 EFB for £118 (70Ah, 760CCA), so am I spending an extra £170 for very little gain?

Hmmm...

How many more years might the car be kept?

Operationally, they'll seem indistinguishable IMO.

Check prices at Tayna.co.uk, you may find they're significantly better.

No plans to change.  Mrs Gaz doesn't like me having two cars, so occasionally mentions selling it and her having my Golf, but she ain't getting her grubby little paws on it!

Think I'll bite the bullet on the £118 one from Tayna
