Mile Muncher - Fabia/Octavia/Superb

Featured Replies

Long time Skoda owner (well I dont currently but last was a Octy mk2.5 TDI 1.9)

So I now do 160 mile trip twice a week for work with a few miles in-between so say 20k a year, perfect for even a modern TDI with a horrid DPF!

This route is actually 40-60mph limits cross country (I live in South Wales) rather than motorway stuff and I dont tend to drive fast as MPG is cheap running is primary concern and I have other "fun cars".

I want an estate full stop!

So Im 6foot4 and do have a poor back so seats are important to me (Tho some of you might suggest I change the seats to something else (which Ive done in the past on cars).

Ive ran a Polo 1.4TDI and loved it, Ive ran a fabia 1.9 and loved it.

What would you buy now with a max budget of £10k and would like to keep for say 3 years? I can spanner ok so brakes, suspension no problem, tho probably dont fancy doing a clutch or cambelt and pump.

Whats cheap to run and reliable and what would you buy? Engine and Model make much difference in fuel or maintenance running costs? Get a low spec and change seats? Buy a £2k car and run it? Spend more?

What would you look at?

Cheers

What is "comfortable to you" is subjective. Personal account:-

A mate and I both had several Citroen BXs each and found them very comfortable. We both tried Xantias as replacements, and he found them uncomfortable to drive for an hour: I found mine very comfortable, including driving from Weymouth to Dumbarton leaving at 9AM, having a shower, and going out for dinner followed by drinks, getting back here about midnight.

Hello Bikerzz :hi:

I agree with Paws - comfortable is so subjective.

Mrs Gaz has a 2015 Polo.  I'm 6'4" too and find it very cramped to drive.

Having had an Octavia and a Superb, for comfort, I'd say Superb all day long   There have been some gems for sale on here this very year - if you're handy with a spanner ad paying out for a DSG repair:

If you search on here there's a wide range of views on Octavia seats.  Mine was a vRS (2015) which I found fine, but a number of people can't get on with them.  You'll find far fewer adverse comments on Superb seats.
