Mpg 1.6tdi

I’m getting low 40’s-46mpg using the throttle and around 50+ when using cruise control, it quite noticeably improves when using cruise control

country roads no traffic approx 50mph

No codes

ive got autel 200 with live data if theres anything i should be looking for ?

thanks

Location location location.

I have never ever had a vehicle that uses less fuel using CC on back roads, 60 mph NSL roads with corners and elevation changes.

I have tried with any vehicle i drive on the same roads in the 20 miles or so around where i live and CC does not lift of power into corners etc.

The difference can be even more noticeable with a DSG and coasting enabled IME.   Less fuel used driving the car and keeping the same speed and journey time as if CC was used, and feels much safer.  As it is i can not set 60 mph and expect the vehicle to get around every bend, or maybe even 50 mph.

Then there is other people using the road that require following, or passing or avoiding as they come towards you maybe CC on and expect you to be giving way.

its the fact when engaging CC the mpg jumps drastically to what i would expect it to be

Faulty throttle position sensor?

I can relearn the throttle today using Autel Maxi 200 other than that idk

On cold start the car average mpg starts at ~17mpg and then slowly rises to around 46mpg after approx 30mins of driving 40-50mph

is this normal?

from previous experience the fuel gauge seems to decrease faster than usual?

The oil is taking a while to get to the Efficient operating temperature.

It would not really use 4.56 litres to go 17 miles only, the coolant is heating the engine and oil and then you are getting the mpg you are or near the indicated.

Warmer weather and it will get the good mpg figure quicker if the ambient temp starting is not so cold.

If you brim the car and do however many miles, say 400 and then brim it and see how many miles a litre you get. The average MPG once you do the maths.

Do you have the same skoda rapid 66kW 1.6tdi?

I’m not new to driving diesel vans however for such a small car this seems alcoholic

I have had 2.0 TDI,s and in cold weather it could be 15-20 miles before the oil was showing 90*oC.

They could do 55- over 60 mpg and used just for short trips like 3 - 5 miles might use a gallon every 25 miles.  Averages might be 45 mpg from a tank.

On a long run over 60 mpg.

Mines a different vehicle with a different engine which also has a bigger frontal area, higher drag coefficient and 4x4 transmission sapping the power but I am up to 46mpg after 4km from a cold start and can be at 57mpg on an 8km each way round trip with a 90 minute stop.

They are the best figures with little traffic and only one traffic light, a typical journey to town shopping will hit the 46mpg after 4km and remain at 49 with the traffic.

thanks, definitely something wrong on mine after 8km its barely low 40’s mpg (open country road) unless its downhill or I immediately reset the counter

I’m also pretty sure the cruise control seems more frugal than using the pedal

I once drove a 1.3cdti corsa from Southampton to leeds at night 60mph and the fuel gauge had used 1/4 from a brimmed tank

thanks against for the info

My MPG was way worse when I visited the Gatwick area where I had a house until 3 years ago, the lack of traffic here and my journeys other than to food shops not having traffic lights, roundabouts and very little traffic make a big difference as does the 80kph = 50mph speed limit.

My pal is on his way here from England, he left the snow behind and it will be 17° tomorrow when he gets here 😃he is driving a new VW transporter towing a new caravan, I reckon 6.5m long, he got 19.5mpg on the first tank of fuel

@Skodacrazy    Did the Corsa show it used 1/4 of a brimmed tank or did you brim it and it had used quarter of the tanks capacity?

1,000 mile possible from a 45 litre tank is very very good.

near 100 miles to the gallon.   Brimmed was maybe over 50 litres in the tank and not just 45 litre.

it was a few years back however i was quite surprised how frugal it was

100% it wasn’t less than 3/4 of a tank when i parked up can't remember exactly

it was a work van and fuel card so definitely filled it to near spillage haha
