How long is your car battery lasting?

Featured Replies

My battery is still starting the car well, it'll be 10 years old next month so must be getting near to needing replacement.
Also has anybody found a way of updating the BEM code with a battery that does not have one, Tayna Batteries say none of their batteries have a BEM code on them.
I do have Carista to input the BEM details.

I used VCDS and you have values Battery Type (AGM), Ah (70), Serial Number (11111111) and Manufacturer (Varta).

The trick is just change serial number even if the rest remain the same. Ah often changes a little too.

But as you see nothing to do with a BEM code anyway.

Does anyone know if those OBD2 handheld fault scanners that say they have Battery Registration on them, actually work ? They seem to be about £50 upwards to include that function?

Be aware they(Carista) have now moved to a subscription model and the 30-day free trial is no longer available also the lifetime diags is no longer available.

Just for clarity. 🙂

Ordered, thanks. If the trial is finished, I'll just pay for a month on the few occasions I'll use it

I've used OBDELEVEN for this purpose, the £99 edition. Yes, it's a big initial  outlay but a few battery changes and it's paid for itself. Also removes the faff of having to take the car to the garage for something so trivial.

I have an Ancel VD700

Great bit of kit that has a special section for VAG,  Skoda and Audi cars amongst others.  Bugatti Veyron amazingly!

About £90

Pays for itself very quickly, and very portable.

I seriously looked at that but don't own a Veyron, so went for the Carista instead ! 😉

Me neither...!!!😄😄😄
