Noob question Octavia mk3 VRS equipment

Featured Replies

Hi all

If all goes well I'll be collecting a pre-facelift 2017 mk3 Octavia VRS tomorrow from a local Skoda dealer.

When I go to collect it, are there any items that should be present in the car, that I should look out for?

I know there's supposed to be an ice scraper in the fuel filler flap.

Should the car have the umbrella and safety vest under the seats?

What items are supposed to be in the boot toolkit:  jack, towing eye. Anything else?

Also what items are supposed to be in the boot?  I'm guessing the net thing isn't supplied as standard?

I just wanted to check before I drove it away - so I can ask the dealer for them if they aren't present.

Also it's got gemini alloys, but they are black.  Was this a factory colour, or have they been resprayed?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the group. Sorry we didn't reply before now. Internally, manual and service record in the glovebox. Umbrella hopefully in the driver box under seat.

In the boot, you may have a can of foam for emergency repairs and a 12v pump plus a tyre wrench.  If you have a spare tyre, there should be a whole load of tools in the foam insert. Both should have tyre towing hooks in them.

Suggested upgrades.

Spare tyre and tools if you don't have them (about 200ukp)

Skoda/VW warning triangle (specific location for storing in the boot)

Skoda First Aid kit (specific location on the right side of the boot)

Hi Viz tabards as appropriate

Things to check (because dealers never seem to check them these days):

Oil level: suggest 1l of 0W30 LL3 VW504/507 spec oil.

Coolant level (make sure you have some G12evo in stock to top up occasionally)

Tyre pressures (found in the fuel filler cap)

Hope that helps

Enjoy.

Hello Vaderoguy

Thanks for getting back to me.I collected the car on Monday.  It's definitely pretty quick, it feels a lot quicker than the claimed 7.9s 0-60 time

Regarding the spare wheel toolkit.  I'm not sure I've got all the bits - I'm missing a plastic bolt cap removal tool.  I've got the jack, towing eye and wheel brace.  Are there any other items missing?

There's a hi-vis vest holder under the driver's seat.  But the umbrella holder is missing from under the passenger seat.  Is it easy to retrofit with the seat in situ?  (As in can it be screwed in place without removing the seat?)

There's no paper service record with stamps- Skoda have this electronically, but i did get them to print it out.

I think I have the correct size warning triangle, so I'll put that in later today.  The first aid kit (part number ?3T0093108B?) - am I best purchasing it from the dealer, or is online a lot cheaper?

There's a bit of wheel or tyre noise at speeds above 40mph.  I didn't notice it during the road test.  Is it because I've got 18" rims?

They are a tad noisy on the road ,good quality tyres help with this ,mines a vrs tsi wagon ,you get used to it ,if your geminis are black then yes they have been painted ,just google a pic to see their original colour ,alot get painted as the diamond cut face oxidizes if not looked after ,enjoy it mate i still love mine seven years on ,never missed a beat .

Google images of the kit, it may help you.  You MUST have the locking wheel nut adaptor.

Most of these things can be retrofitted for little cost.  Sometimes, the umbrella lives in the side of the door.  It really depends on the type of seats you have.

Re: First Aid Kit.  Best get this online - usually plenty of them on ebay.

Re: tyre noise.  The Golf's and Octavia's have a habit of throwing out their wheel alignment - its a VAG thing - so try to avoid potholes where possible.  My first call would be to a 4-wheel alignment shop.  Your car should have rear independant sub-frame, so all 4 wheel need the alignment doing.  If you are still running around on the OE Dunlop Sport tyres, get rid as soon as possible.  They are noisy, uncomfortable and frankly I don't rate them.  18" rims are no more noisy than 19" (I've got 18" on my L&K and they are sublime with the correct tyre - I run Goodyear Vector 4-seasons Gen3 tyres).  If all season's aren't your thing or you don't need them, then go for Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 tyres (assuming 225/40 R18Y)
