1.0 TSi timing belt replacement

My Toledo Rapid clone is coming up for its 7th birthday and is sitting at 38k at the moment. VAG seemingly changed the rules on timing belt replacement intervals to 15 years. This seems quite high so I was curious if anyone had experienced any issues? Is there an easy way of getting a look at the timing belt without removing parts of the car? It's supposed to get checked as part of the service but I would like to check myself.
