2024 Karoq Gearbox

Featured Replies

Hi I'm new here and new to driving a Skoda. When I took the dealers diesel Karoq for a test drive I was taken back at just how great it was drove like a dream.

My Karoq is the 1.5 SE petrol as it's a motability car I could only have the petrol.I have found since driving mine that the reverse gear doesn't have a leaver on the gear nob to engage it, instead you push down and select reverse.

I find this really annoying because I'm forever putting it in first gear or when I'm selecting first I often get reverse instead. I can't understand why it wouldn't be like every other car I have had were there is a leaver that you pull up with your fingers and select reverse that way, I was wondering if it's just me who has this issue.

Thanks

After 10 years driving Vauxhalls I experienced the same different gear lever movement to engage reverse.

It's like that on every VW Group (VW, Audi, Skoda, SEAT, etc.) car with a manual gearbox - it's how VAG do it.

You need to avoid putting your hand on top of the gear lever (except when you want reverse), which can result in pushing it down unintentionally. Instead cup your hand beside/behind the gear lever and guide it towards the gear you want.

Thanks for your reply.....It's a bad habit of mine to be honest I've always driven with 1 hand on top of gear stick but oddly I never had an issue in the demo I drove.

I've always been a Vauxhall man myself I used to love my zafira.

I can, you must have driven very few vehicles or from one or few manufacturers.

I have had scores of cars and driven hundreds, I have owned only one with a pull up collar for reverse gear.

It takes a significant downwards push to overcome the reverse gear gate detent, its not good practice to rest your hand on the gearlever while driving as it will wear the gear selector forks eventually preventing engagement of top gear on a 6 speed box.

Not only do you have to overcome the downwards resistance of the detent spring but you also have to push sideways against resistance to engage reverse gear, maybe someone should check for the correct operation of the detent springs.

I've had many a car not just 1 manufacturer but this is the first VAG car I've had and the first like this either reverse is down or has had a lever, and I agree it's a bad habit resting my hand on the gear stick it's one I'm going to have to get out of thanks
