Superb Mk3 Estate PHEV - first thing to change/do?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone!

Just got my 2020 Mk3 as above.  It's completely stock, the SE L version, only extras are the parking camera.

Thoughts from all of you on what you would do to make this feel my own, drive better, improve infotainment etc.

Thanks!

Some interior and exterior pics would be helpful, so we can get a better idea of what you have and haven't got.

But, the immediate things to consider would be:

Mudflaps

Boot liner (essential for an estate)

Boot nets

Wind deflectors

Short Right angle USB-C cable so you can charge your phone in the cubby in front of the gearstick with the cover closed)

Interior mats (rubber for winter, carbet for summer)

There are other accessories to consider like the comfort pack, which adds the Skoda universal headrest fitment and a range of plug-ins like a hanger, hooks and a tablet/phone holder. I find the coat hanger is extremely useful as I still have to wear people clothes occasionally for work and the odd social occasion).

Also consider upgrading your boot lights and puddle lights. The factory fitted ones, while LED, are still a bit feeble. There are much brighter alternatives available from places like Kopaeck or, if you feel brave, AliExpress.

The boot liner and right angle usb-c is on my list, I was going to ask what ppl did to help with the phone placement.

Are the wind deflectors for driving with the windows down? Not too bothered about that tbf

Yes, they are for driving with the window open a bit. Also stop rain from blowing or dripping in. Plus they look good on the car.

When you say completely stock what does that include?

What assistants do you have?

Do you have ACC? Do you have the triangle camera in your windscreen?

Electric memory seats?

The mods I have done are the comfort entry (seats all the way back when you enter and exit)

Activated lane assist and adaptive lane guidance (triangle camera required)

Doors unlocking automatically when you put it into park (useful coz the Mrs gets the nippers out when i pull up and is forever banging on my window to press the button)

Changed the setting in the menu so the key unlocks all doors when you unlock it, that always p*sses me off when you've not pressed it hard enough the second time so prefer the boot and everyone else to be able to get in after one press.

Reduced the speed for the parking assistant thing to go off my screen to 5km per hour.

I assume you've set up Skoda Connect and everything so you can remote turn your ac on? Really nice to have your car fully charged and warm especially in this weather.

You've probably also figured out the hybrid system too, if you turn auto off you can set the amount you want it to charge by moving the arrows up or down etc. However rarely do this. This car turned me into a stickler for efficiency, managed to get 60mpg on a 170 mile round trip with 1 mile of battery range left on new years day. Not bad for a 1.4 litre petrol driven barge!

I've got a heated steering wheel sat here just trying to figure out what clock spring I need to replace along with it to get it working.

I love the car hope you do as well!

Thanks Mike - i like it too :)

I have the Elec mem driver seat but not passenger, that's fine

I have ACC but not the lane assist.  In honesty i am OK with this as in the Enyaq VRS i hated the lane assist it kinda drove me mad ...

My doors all seem to unlock at one press so maybe that's been done already, i also have the keyless so maybe that's why?

I like the unlock when you park feature - how did you do that?

Skoda connect, annoyingly, has been a B**** and is refusing.  am going to go try to activate the car this afternoon.

The hybrid so far is a bit of a mystery - i have the E-mode and the Hybrid mode but not worked out how much the regenerative works etc.  Again, on the to-do.

HSW would be lovely, i do miss that from the enyaq.  However, gloves cost £5 :D

My big thing i think is the Infotainment Screen.  I want to replace the Amundsen with something with more screen real estate.  The aftermarket ones (PlusCenter?) look awesome but i am skeptical....

Nice suggestions ... I'd say also window and rear blinds if your not with tinted windows, I like the "metal type" pedals, sunglasses' holder, a bumper protector ...

Unless they've changed the amp output, the USB-C is the worlds slowest charger ever and you're better off using the USB-A in the armrest.  It was put there to transfer data.

Your hybrid requires the Skoda navigation to calculate how much battery to use on journeys, if you use googlemaps etc then it has no idea what so ever and goes to a standard setting.

THere are various modes you can use, it defaults to EV only but you can change this to hybrid.  Hybrid Auto will have the car choose what it thinks is best for your journey (as per using the map), but if you're doing a there and back journey with no additional charging you will want to untick auto and then set the accumulator to 50% (note you cannot set 50% so its either 60 or 40) so that it saves battery for the return journey.

In hybrid mode on longer journeys (200 miles) I get about 70-80 miles of EV driving on one charge, the regen is ok but not a miracle worker.  Pull the shifter back one to get B mode instead of D.  I drove full laden with a trailer and a roofbox to St Andrews over Xmas and got 58mpg out of it, on 100 mile trips to the outlaws with less weight I normally get around 80mpg.  Pure electric and nothing else is between 22-35miles depending on temp and terrain.

That's insightful thanks - i did 58mpg on 125miles yesterday but it consumed the battery.  on the return the petrol only did 50mpg which i was quite happy with tbf.  in fairness it was -2 when i started so the EV did all the work defrosting the car / warming the AC etc so i think i chewed through a lot of battery at the start of the journey.

i have a ticket open with Skoda connect because it won't let me reg my user so i can't use the remote AC yet.  Once i can do that i can get it defrosted while on the wall charger.

I've not used the USBA yet but will try it.  I am generally ok charging on the C but the A is going to be needed for the kids to charge in the back so that will have to be used eventually.
