Help Needed for Alternator Compatibility - Skoda II (542) 1.2 2008

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I own a Skoda II (542) 1.2 2008, 44 kW / 60 HP, engine type: BBM, CHFA, petrol. Unfortunately, my battery has stopped charging, and I suspect the issue is with the alternator. I’ve looked into buying a new alternator, but the prices are quite high, so I’m trying to find a second-hand one instead.

However, I’m not entirely sure which alternator model is compatible with my car. If anyone here has experience with this or owns the same model, I’d really appreciate your advice. Could you let me know which alternator models would work for this car?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

The VW group part number may well be visible on the rear face of the alternator.  Match that exactly and you will be fine.

Ok, does the battery light come on when you switch the ignition on or not?

Yes, while the car was in motion, the battery light turned on. It continued running for a while, but then the electrical functions stopped working, and eventually, the car shut down completely.

By the way: Would it be difficult for me to replace this part myself? Based on the videos I’ve watched, it doesn’t seem too complicated, and accessing the alternator in my car is quite easy. The part can be removed directly. However, I’m wondering if there are any specific details I should be aware of, like reinstalling the belt, for example.
