Fuel cap lock

Featured Replies

The lock on the fuel cap is no longer loving, I have found a replacement online but it says to swap the lock from the old one. Is it easy to remove the lock I can't see how it comes apart.

Could the community help

If the lock on your current fuel cap is not working, why would you put that mechanism into a new cap?

I want to take it out and look at it to see if I can repair it.

How is it not working at the minute?

When I turn the key it does not engage the lock, it used to turn without opening now that does happen. I have tried spraying silicone spray down the lock but no good

If it does not turn with the key, it's either seized or broken. Try the spare key, in case your main key is worn. If seized, lots of penetrating oil may help (silicone is too thick to get into tight spaces), but if broken, it will be hard to disassemble and attempt repair, I think.

I'd think that these parts are not made to be disassembled without destroying them or in other words rendering them not fit to be reassembled and trusted in the future, if I were you, I'd just buy a new one - having a working and reliable fuel cap works for me, though all our cars have locking covers so basic fuel caps.

Edit:- wait a minute, there is a "lock cylinder" listed in the Skoda parts listing - so maybe you can buy one to suit your car's key!

Yeah it's an MOT failure if it doesn't lock so will have to get it fixed by then

I think it needs to seal but not necessarily lock.

So if the Citigo fuel cap can still be twisted up to seal the end it might be still good.

Two of my cars don't have key locking fuel caps and one has passed 12 MOT's already.
