Boot loading lip – solutions to reduce it?

Featured Replies

Hi,

To those owners who don’t have a variable boot floor, did you manage to find a way how to reduce the boot loading lip somehow? Or it doesn’t bother you?

I’m considering buying a used Karoq but the one I’m eyeing comes without a variable boot floor, which is a bit disappointing. I’m trying to find out if there are any reasonable solutions to fix that afterwards.

I don't know about reducing the lip but I do use one of these . https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073H3QRVP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Didn't bother with the hooks  on the cords but the top 3-4 CM is velcro. As I have the double sided boot liner, plastic side up, I tucked the vecro under and it grips on the carpet side.

The i can just flip it our when I need it    It is not specifically for the Karoq and to be perfect it could to to be 6cm wider.. It does coverr the buper and for the mony it is very good.

Doesn't worry me.

My Karoq came with a space saver spare wheel with moulded styrene storage around the wheel. The boot floor sits on top of this and is pretty much level with the “threshold” of the hatch.  If you don’t have the spare wheel and moulded storage maybe that’s a way to raise the boot floor?

Perhaps, yes…

By the way, why do models without the variable boot floor have this stupid raised lip below the back seats (red arrow)? Doesn’t this lip reduce the usable boot floor length by several inches?? They should have removed it when the car is specced without the variable boot floor…

Could someone please measure the length of the boot floor as per the green arrow on the below pic?

Thanks

Now I’ve seen your photo I can see that my boot floor is higher as the white metal anchor point is below the boot floor. That ledge you refer to is below the boot floor. IMG_5796.thumb.jpeg.f9bb1ffae322945193eaedb53446f6ad.jpeg

Hm, so if I were to buy the space saver spare wheel kit (is this it?) it would raise the floor all the way up to here (see red arrows)?

I think it would, I’ll take another photo tomorrow as this one doesn’t show the exact level at the bottom of the rear seat as the net is obscuring it. As you can see you get some useful storage compartments. This was a factory fit item in mine when k got it at 6 months old.IMG_5795.thumb.jpeg.7abef256dbf01a7c185ea30614b24cdc.jpeg

OEM 57A093860A has been superseded by 57A093860C. You would also require the centre plastic screw support, if you don’t have a full size spare wheel.

@jon15 Here are some images that hopefully will answer your questions. Firstly these are from my June 2023 build 2.0 TSI Sportline 4x4, in case that makes a difference.

I removed the styrene storage which exposes this structural cross member - I don't have the carpet covering that you have because this was a factory fitted spare wheel. I also don't have the plastic trim over the seat hinge.

My Karoq came with the double sided boot mat which sits on top of the main boot floor shown in these photos.

The styrene storage when fitted goes over the top of the cross member, and the carpet you can see by the hingle how much it comes u[p the hinge probably about 20mm.

With everything refitted and the boot floor folded back at the side,  a handy way to access the underfloor storage, the white anchor loops are just visible, the raised flap resting against the seat back can be pushed flat but I leave it up to stop dirt etc getting under the seat.

So length or depth of boot from  threshold to back of rear seats is 34 inches, this is at the base of the backrest.

This is the measurement from the top of the cubby hole side to the top of the boot floor.

Wow, that was super helpful, thank you! I'll probably go on a test drive of a used 2022 Karoq i've been considering (the above pics I posted are just random boot photos I found online - I haven't seen the boot of the Karoq in question yet) to decide whether or not to purchase it.

If I indeed go ahead with the purchase, I'll post the picture of the boot here for further consideration to double-check with you / anyone else before ordering the space saver spare wheel kit.

If the Karoq you test drive has Vari flex rear seats that cross member area might be different. I’ve not seen Vari flex seats though so can’t say. Also mine is 4x4 and I’ve never looked at a 2wd Karoq boot it’s possible the boot floor in a 4x4 had to be higher than a 2wd to allow for the rear diff etc.
