What rear speakers...

Featured Replies

Having had my head unit changed (Pioneer) and replaced the front speakers I have been thinking about wanting that little extra 'grunt' and quality.

For a while I had been thinking of fitting a compact sub in the boot, but can't talk myself into buying one on the grounds of losing boot space etc.

With this in mind I have now wondered if fitting rear shelf speakers would make a significant difference...

Any thoughts on this and any recomendations on good speakers (6x9?)

Just to add the info I got from your profile, it's an Octy ;)

Some good 6x9s should work very nicely, although you may have to re-inforce the shelf a bit to avoid it flapping a fair bit

Do you really need THAT much boot space? A sub in a box won't take up that much room, and Octy's have big old boots! If you really don't want a sub, i'd recommend some Genesis 6x9 subs. Although they'll need amping to perform properly.

Yep it's an Octy...

Know what you mean about the shelf flapping around a bit... Once had 6x9's fitted in a previous motor and the shelf did tend to bounce around more (had to fit more foam rubber round edges to stop it)

With this install I would get the fitter to fit a sound board if poss into the shelf and then 'hide' the speakers.

Been looking at some Infinities that look quite smart....

Should be ok to reinforce it from underneath, bit of cloth over the top maybe.

I'm still thinking about it myself but as I've got a Fabia my bootspace is even less so it probably won't happen :(

No don't be going with 6x9'sthey are too obvious.

Either put better component speakers in if you don't already have good ones, or get a compact sub for the boot. 6x9 will need an amp and the rest to be driven well so will take up as much room as an amp set up really.

Also you could have a small install to the right hand of the boot where the storage net is.

About the shelf flapping, you will be suprised if ifts a Mk1 octy as the shelf actually had some metal(fairly thick too) running through the entire midlle of the damned thing, which is what i found out when i installed my 200W rms 6x9's.

You'll get even a better sound if you amp them up too, as the signal will be cleaner!

Oh it took a lot longer than anticipated to fit the speakers because of the metal!!!

What about one of these?

I have a spare 'official' Pioneer slim-line box designed specificially for this sub sat in the cupboard under the stairs at home if your interested.

Looks pretty tasty, but I think I have talked myself out of a sub for hassle reasons.

Thanks all the same.
