Kamiq knocking noise after disc/pad change

Featured Replies

Recently got the front disc and pads changed on my Kamiq by my local indy. Driving it home I noticed when the road surface changed rough there was a knocking noise on the front drivers side. Not necessarily a pothole that triggers it, but very uneven road surface does.

Took it back to my mechanics, who checked the brakes, then test drove it on some rough roads, but they said they couldn't hear anything.

I didn't know if it was just me hearing things, so decided not to tell my girlfriend and she noticed the same thing.

It's now got pagid brakes put on, but I'm wondering if aftermarket pads have a habit of knocking, or am I looking at potential drop bar links?

Maybe depending on the engine power output - or maybe not, that car could have Mando front callipers, Mando seem to have been licensed to manufacture "same as" versions of established European brake parts, so maybe an issue with tolerances in there somewhere. It seems to be aftermarket Brembo brake pads that get bad press for causing knocking noises and that is put down to the type of steel backing plates that they make/sure, ie punched out using cheap and cheery  presses. That info comes from someone that works in brake testing industry and is not made up by me.

I'm not sure how aftermarket Pagid pads are made, so can't comment there, but I've used them in the past and would use them again on our cars as and when they need new brake pads, but Pagid from ECP, hummm, maybe a lesser or lower quality product in Pagid boxes - by mutual agreement.

The performance of the Pagid's is decent.
I have no noise when reversing, or going into gear, or go from stationary to moving(so I cant see it being the brake rattle?).

It really is just a very annoying knocking noise when on rough surfaces. When the suspension is fully engaged like bigger potholes I can't hear it.
I'm just scratching my head how it went in with no noises and has come out with definite noise, and they can't 'hear' anything.

Hello ambientsound,

did you or the mechanics found any solution? I have the same knocking noise. My Kamiq will be in the repair shop next week. Im curious what it could be.

Might I suggest that the last sentence of the OP's first post is correct. Drop links.

These can be problematic at low mileages. I have had them replaced at around 15,000 miles on both a Fabia and a Scala.

Hi Josdad,

thanks for replying. On a first sight the mechanics excluded the drop links. I suspected them aswell...

Will see what they will find next week.
