RPM goes high by itself while steady on acceleration pedals after 2500 rpm

Featured Replies

Hello

i have mk2 1z3 octavia 1.6 mpi 2008 while car stoped when I press acceleration pedal rpm goes high by itself when i reach 2500 rpm without me pressing more it wont stop until I lift my foot away

Also same some times happens with cruise control

I don't fully understand your question but I can tell you that when car is stationary and not in gear, the ecu will not allow you to overrev the engine. The rev limiter could be 2500 rpm on your engine.

I think he means when he holds his food steadily on the Accelerator pedal, above 2500 rpm the rpm keeps climbing.

I think it's just a gimic of the drive by wire system.

Can you just lift your foot a bit once the rpm is where you want it?

Does it do the same on the road?

Often free reving an engine you don't need much throttle to get the revs up, so a tiny movement of the throttle would increase the revs alot.

It is much more damped on the road due to the load on the engine.

Also, many drive by wire systems dampen the throttle response at low speeds or in low gear to make it smoother.  You notice it alot when you loose the speedo input and its jumpy as he'll at low speed

Thank you guys for your reply
@pikpilot no I wasn’t trying to over rev

@BlueWagon yes you got it

but for clarity I uploaded video for it please check it

i was trying to make it steady at 15 but it decreased by it self then i tried between 20 and 25 it went crazy by itself it only stopped when I left the accelerator

Sounds normal to me for when you approach the end of the runway!

So if you lift off just a bit does the rpm drop off or stop rising, or do you have to release the pedal all the way?

Coincidently, I was watching a car programme on TV today with exactly your problem - revs rising on idle etc.

The cause was an air leak on the engine side of the MAF. Specifically, a worn/broken seal to the MAF. The extra air that bypassed the MAF was causing the ecu to try to correct the problem by adjusting the fuelling and this raised the revs.

Worth checking.
