About to buy my first Skoda Roomster - would love some advice about the petrol version of the Roomster's lifespan

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm about to join the Skoda club, and having driven a camper van for the last 8 years and having two tall teens to cart around I've got my heart set on a Roomster.

I'm trying to decide between two 1.2 TSI SE's at the moment - one 2013 (9300 miles) and one 2014 (96722 miles). Both have a decent (not full) service history, will come with new clean MOTs, and the 2014 had its timing belt changed in 2021.

I need a petrol version as I live on the edge of a Clean Air Zone. I know Skoda diesel engines go on and on, but what are people's experiences of the lifespan of petrol versions? Are there any major problems I'm likely to come up against soon?

Welcome.

Sorry i know little about them other than they are pretty reliable.

I think the 2013 one might have a timing chain while the 2014 has the cam belt which has revised advice / recommendations on the interval for replacing,

No longer @ 5 years / 50,000 in the UK.

Hi, Ootohere thanks for replying. ( I love Minis by the way!) The 2014 has a timing chain, which has been replaced, and good to hear confirmation on here that the petrol versions are reliable.

There are two 1.2tsi: one with 86bhp and the alternative with 104bhp. I have the 86bhp and enjoy the lower insurance costs. I have had the 86bhp from new over 12 years and have had no major issues over 66k. I have taken mine on European trips fully loaded and have found it not wanting. Touring mpg has been around 53mpg so very economical.

They are both 86bhp as well. I've decided to go for the 2014 one, having it delivered tomorrow. Thanks for your reply - it is good to hear you've had no issues once it has gone up into higher mileage.
