Broken fog light, need info

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looks like the seller pulled a fast one on me. The passenger side foglight almost fell out while driving today, turns out it was just glued in place 🤦‍♂️

Just look at that gunk!

That clip is gone and there is probably no fixing it other then ordering a whole new fog light, but is the bumper clip gone too? I cant tell and can't find a good picture of one.

That gunk will probably be a pain to clean too 😞

Well, looks like I'm in the market for at least the left fog light. Maybe a pair if anyone has the black ones. Hopefully the bumper doesn't need changing.

It's the clip thats broke on the light or to put it bluntly it's gone completely, hence it was bodged in..................probably levered out with a bar by an idiot that should not go near cars.

Bumper looks ok.

Heres an image of what it should look like........

and a link to the item for sale....

Thanks @UrbanPanzer, yeah, there is no fixing that clip :D

Mine are both silver, but the black are so much nicer. Thanks for the link, I'll check with local breakers in the morning if I can get the pair for cheap (and quick).

The paperwork says it's a Monte Carlo, but not a thing on this car looks like one (silver lights and grill, no black roof, no black trim, no black mirrors), begining to think the previous owner put some work into this car, and not the good kind 😞

Will let you know what I find 👍

Ordered a black set (not from deutsche-parts though), should have them mounted by next weekend 😁

Post took longer than expected, and then other things happened as well, but I finally have them mounted!

2012 Fabia with black foglights

I found the missing clip knocking around in the bumper (had I found it earlier I could have tried to melt it back together with a soldering iron, oh well):IMG_20200906_182515.thumb.jpg.6af4febc548d59b022d6efd7e5334c50.jpg

I'll throw them both in the for free section if anyone wants them. Left - clip broken, unscrached "glass", Right - 100% functional, has small blue mark (paint transfer from something?).IMG_20200906_182439.thumb.jpg.364678d473d3e3c4fda0d559ab97c604.jpg

Thanks again for your help @UrbanPanzer.

Glad its sorted........

REF the sodering iron, they are often made of a plastic that won't weld, well it "may" but then it breaks very easy.....tried many times before.

I've perfected the art of soldering iron cross stitch over the years and have recovered some irrecoverable breakages and made quite a few Frankenstiens along the way.

What changed the game for me was realising that tywraps seem to be the perfect filler rod material for all manner of plastics, for highly stressed areas I also put in some mechanical stitches with racing lockwire before plastic welding.

A couple of years ago I invested in a proper hot air gun but TBH I get good results now with a soldering iron and dont weaken or melt the surrounding area.

I'd expect it to be a tricky fix @UrbanPanzer, as it's a bendy part. Not saying I'd be successful at fixing it, just might have tried.

Good to know there is a way to fix these things to a usable state @J.R.. But this was a good excuse to go to black :D

I put them up for free if they are use to anyone:

...Or connect them up to a switchable battery/12V supply and lodge them in the ceiling of the garage!
