I have heard in the past that the gearbox in the RS has a torque limiter on it set to 280ish ft/lb, is this true?

Only yesterday I witnessed something quite incredible, 272bhp (at the wheels) and 325ft/lb running through a standard gearbox, engine and turbo.

I didnt know it had a limiter, but a little bird told me it was only rated to around 270lb/ft.

After this things start going wrong :(

5spd 02J has lower torque rating then tripple shaft 02M 6spd

Well - I don't know if this helps, but Mike @ Jabba told me that the Fabia TDI gearbox is officially rated at only 200 lb/ft torque, yet he says they easily cope with the 250 lb/ft the engines put out when remapped.

So, if the Fabia gearbox can easily take 25% more torque than officially it should, then I should think that if the Octy vRS gearbox is rated to 270 lb/ft, then a 25% increase would mean it should handle 340 lb/ft torque OK, assuming the same thresholds apply.

Thanks Jason, I did always wonder. Never had clutch slip etc on mine.

Anyone know what the figure is for the TDI 6 speeder gearbox?

I reckon it's around the 250lb/ft mark, as they're supposed to (unlike some) put out 230ish lb/ft as standard.

Yeah but what about the Fab vRS 6-cog one? - how will it cope with 320lb/ft+?
