MOT rev limiter

Featured Replies

I have to go to the MOT soon. Is there anything I can do to prevent those MOT monkeys from revving my car to hard? Kinda worried about that. I've already looked for a rev limiter but can't really find anything that's easy and cheap to install.

Why would that be an issue? If the engine is at working temperature, there is nothing to worry about. Revving the engine for a short period of time will not do any harm to the engine.

The MOT in my country (Belgium) are absolute swines who redline cars for fun. There are reports online of people who leave with ruined cars because these pigs redline during the exhaust test.

Adding to that, mostly there's a queue of an hour, and while queue the motor cools down so when they rev it it's on a cold motor...

@PilsnerUrquel It would help if you said what your car was, as in diesel or petrol.

So does it not have a rev limit already?   Is it a petrol?

Is the MOT in Belgium really testing emissions on cold engines?

They do not do the other checks / inspection with the engine runnng!

Sorry, it's a 2021 1.5 tsi octavia combi petrol.

Hardly going to wreck it getting the accelerator held down.

?

Are you not allowed to watch the MOT from a waiting area?

🤐

You are not present (standing beside the car) when they are testing?

They make you stand at the front because they don't like you watching them. Citing "safety" rules. Total kittenss.

In the UK there are viewing areas for Safety.

Standing at the front is good enough to know if someone revs the car beyond what is required for the Emissions test.

Tell them not to be stupid barstewards if that is what they are being.

My vRS won't rev any higher than ~5k rpm when stationary so I wouldn't worry.

If the car is left for an hour the engine will still be warm

Isn't leaving the engine idling for an hour harmful?

I mean not running

Can I leave it running for an hour without damage to keep it at high temps?

I would think so, but I do think you are unnecessarily worrying.  Its not going to hurt the car for it to be revved even to the fuel cut out as long as its not done when the engine is completely cold.
