Subframe engine support bush removal and refitting

Featured Replies

As previous posts trying to track down weird wobble from car. Only when accelerating. Have checked upper engine/gearbox mounts and there good. Bottom dogbone mount is also good but I have seen online that there are lower mounting bushes in subframe. Can you replace them without subframe removal and if so is it a difficult job and do I need a special bush removal/insert tool

fits SKODA OCTAVIA 2004-2013 SUBFRAME LOWER CRADLE MOUNT MOUNTING BUSH. KARLMANN. Wheel Bearings, Hubs & Seals. AWB239 Picture for reference. I would be buying decent bushes

I think they would be the lower arm rear bushes, aka console bushes. You can buy those as either a bush complete with the aluminium casting, or just the bush that you will need to push out the old and push in the new. You can also get polybush versions.

You can use reciprocating saws etc to cut out the old bush and then just push in a new one with basic tools like a wide vice, or you can get removal tools off the various auction sites for sensible money.

Will have a good look at rear. Did check and there didn't seem to be any play but difficult to tell. Just replaced drop links at front due to clunk. No play in old drop links but clunk has gone so it doesn't take much wear to affect it. Still to do drop links at rear as they are clunking over bumps so will have a good look while I am at it. Does feel wobble is from the front but it could be the rear which would explain no feeling through steering wheel. The only bushes at the front thats left that I havent checked replaced are the two in the subframe which look like a pain to change. Don't really want to remove frame as have read aligning again is difficult.
