Mobile phone not charging

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just upgraded from a galaxy S20 mobile phone to a galaxy S25 ultra.

The S20 wireless charged perfectly in my superb mk4 but the s25 constantly fails. It puts a long fail message on the screen to say things like it detects a credit card or the phone is out of position or various others.

Anyone else having problems?

I have an S24 ultra with a case. It's a really really tight fit, but charging works fine.

Does it work when you try to disable NFC?

Worth a try. Will get on to it in the morning. Cheers.

Looked at my phone this morning and NFC is not turned on, so it can't be that.

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that the S25 Ultra has a new protocol for wireless

charging (G12 or G20?). If so will probably have to wait for Skoda to support it

with an over the air update?

I was just hoping that someone out there with an S25 range phone would share

their experiences.

Andy, Does the phone sit flat on the charging pad? The back of the phone needs to sit flat on the tray. If there is a gap it either won’t work or will charge slowly and get hot. Some phones work better if you put them in with the top of the phone to the rear of the car. Wireless charging relies on the charging coil in the car lining up with the pickup coil in the phone. Typically these are in the centre of devices but if they are not central one way up works better than the other.

yes the new Samsungs support Qi 2.x but they still support the older standard so I don’t think it’s software.

Same problem here, S23U worked just fine, S25U constantly just drops the charging. it charges between 15 seconds to 5 minutes, when i toggle the wireless charging pad off and on from the settings it resumes charging for a random amount of time. it seems that the car's charging system i just overly sensitive to random interference's, alignment problems or some other combination of reasons.

The camera bumps could be a problem, but they were as big on S23U and it did work just fine. I have tried using different cases, even the slimmest possible one with less than mm thick case without any magsafe magnets still does not work. if the root cause is the parallel alignment between charging coils, than this could be verified with a simple pad that is barely thicker than the camera bumps and helps to keep the phone flat.

With the original samsung leather case the mostly working orientation seemed to be upside down with charging port facing forwards, but that was also not 100% working. I thought it was because the case had metal ring around the cameras, but the issue persisted also with fully plastic case.

I've played about with mine a bit more now and decided it just does not like the Spigen case I am using (not necessarily Spigens fault I suspect any case would cause the same problems).

I allways use Spigen cases. Spigen advertise this case as being wireless charging compatible, but with the case on the best it will charge is for 2-3 minutes.

With the case off it's much better, almost perfect.

I have contacted Spigen support about this and am currently waiting for a reply.

I have the same issue with S23 U + Spigen Slim Armor. This isuue is only in the car, other wireless chargers work fine the the Spigen case.

The coil in Skoda could be deeper in the housing so smartphone+case and the higher distance between car coil and phone coil and you have unstable user experience while charging.

There is a rubber mat in the charging bay that is quite thick as it has the air duct for the cooling. Might be worth trying taking g that out.

Do you plop it into the bay without any other trickery? Normal way up not upside down?

Mu S25U Polypropylene case is basically non-existent and closer to a sticker than case, so that should not cause any issues, but still the charging is intermittent at best.

I Have the same issue with a Pixel 8a phone. The charger has been replaced as the service centre said the cooling fan had failed but it still doe not charge properly. It picks up the phone then after 10-20 secs. drops out with a not charging message appearing on the screen. Occasionally it does charge but it is very random and without any pattern. I have a cheap wireless charger in the house that works faultlessly evert time so it must have something to do with the Skoda charging system.

I'm having this issue since getting a Pixel 10. I previously had the Pixel 8 Pro which charged fine in the car.

Haven't tried the phone facing backwards yet
