Squeaking noise taking off in 1.6 dsg

Featured Replies

Hi there

I just noticed a short squeaking sound from my 17 octavia 1.6dsg taking off. So checked a few times and from a dead start ie 1st gear there is this short squeak that disappears once the revs increase and def gone by second gear. Historically would have said fan belt slippage but little Knowledge of dsg and just wondered could it be something more serious announcing itself ie dsg or clutches. Running fine otherwise. Thanks for any exp or input.

Does it do it in all modes?

No or to be honest I don't know. I only use the the dsg and as far as I'm aware only have one mode. No sign of the noise this morning but I was being a little more conservative with the take offs as on listening more so wasn't gun ho with getting moving per say.

DSG normally have 3 modes - Drive, Eco and Sport.

But the shifter has just D, S or M.

Try going off in S & also M1 and changing manually to M2.

Then if you can dismiss the DQ200 DSG as being the cause you can start looking for some other reason.

You have me lost. On my car I only have a dsg box with the usual P R N D and the plus and minus to side. Around thar I hava a button for lock doors abd the start stop immobiliser. Iv read a few places re the driving modes and liked at the book but couldn't find where one can select these modes from. Be glad to know and also try your suggestion.

@Mkg Sorry my bad, i was meaning the going forward choices.

So no S behind the D on your DSG. No matter.

No afraid not. The fact it wasn't in it this am is puzzling tho

Any chance you could post a picture of the shifter?

That's it there. I assume the s beside the D is for the shifting the gears manually in the +/- ie manual gear selection.

This is what I have.

With the selector in D, flicking the selector down will put it into sports mode, flicking it back up will put it back into whatever mode had been selected.

For manual shifting, in the D position, move the selector to the left and then flick the selector down to downshift or up to upshift. The middle display on the instrument panel will tell you which gear you're in.

Move the selector to the right to go back to auto mode.

I must try that later. I never went pase D ie flicking it down. I briefly tried the manual mode once just to check it out. Thanks for explaining to me. So basically flick it on down past D for sports mode and does it automatically go back to norm once I stop ie shift back up past D to say park P or reverse or R reverse.

Flick down to change to sport, flick down again to change back to drive (normal).

Thanks for that. I would never have known I even had that choice until now. I was reading the book and when I hadn't the button I said I must not have the choice. Thanks a mil

Yes, I should have said flick it down again instead of up.

Well a week has passed. I made the amazing discovery of a sports mode earlier in week. Bit of a difference in the car ie a bit more responsive. Had no noise all week even when I was in the sports mode for the singular journey. (didn't need to be revving up as the area us full of 50 60 and 80 km zones) . However I was taking off on a hill after a short break from a previous 30 min drive and was stopped talking to someone while still in drive briefly and when taking off the notorious squeak appeared ever so briefly. Suspicions aroused I listened whilst I parked at my own place on a street with a hill. And while straightening up the car going forward to parallel park a little squeak again. Def sounds like a sloping fan belt but need to get checked. Anyway with that in mind I took of up the hill out of my soace and also switched to s mode and too' fit a little spin down the roads. No squeak was heard at the 2 junctions I took off from. Rrurned to my normal spot and as usual finished parallel parking by taking off or mznouvering up hill to straighten the car up and not a sound. Coukd this be a break calipers or disc and pads rubing I wonder as being the dsg I would have em pressed each time at take off and they'd be realising. I have noticed in past a bit of knarling in the breaks at the first stopping in the morning especially if it was wet the evening before parking up. Puzzled for now
