Škoda Fabia mk3 spare wheel size help

Featured Replies

Hi there I’ve just bought a 2017 Škoda fabia mk3 colour edition,

Unfortunately it has no spare wheel just one of those pump repare things that I don’t like,

My question is what size is the spare wheel that I need to buy?

The car is fitted with 16” wheels

Thanks in advance

Neil

The below foam and jack kit for the Fabia MK3 includes everything, except for the actual spare wheel...which you can purchase separately.

Thjs kit normally uses the standard Fabia MK3 15" wheel which is 185/60R15 fitted to a 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 rim...normally steel if it's a spare wheel.

The foam and jack kit can be ordered from any VAG parts department by quoting OEM part number 6V0093860B. The Czech price is about £49, but the UK price can be slightly more...perhaps up to 20% more or so.

Google "alcar 7760 mytyres.co.uk" to find a listing on mytyres for an Alcar 7760 6Jx15 ET38 5/100 57.1 steel rim. Currently priced at £43.47 including shipping to the UK from Germany. This is an aftermarket steel rim that exactly matches the original Skoda steel rim. Alcar are made in Switzerland, so as you would expect are OE quality.

This steel rim can be ordered from mytyres with a fitted tyre of your choice. One option is a Continental UltraContact 185/60R15 84H.

Or when knowing the size required ebay / gumtree / BRISKODA for sale / wanted is where many find a suitable Used Spare wheel / tyre. Used / Unused. Matching the 4 on the car or an Emergency Spare / Saver of space.

Have you tried to fit the spare onto the car yet?

I've got the same make and model as you from 2017, that was also not supplied with a spare. I had the misfortune to have a puncture on the M5 last week on the passenger front wheel.

I'd previously bought a space saver spare from an online supplier, after providing them with my reg number and car details.

After spending 15 minutes fitting the spare I tried drive away but heard a grinding noise when I moved. Fearing that I'd damaged the brakes or worse, I called out the AA. After inspecting the vehicle and removing the spare he said "the offset on your spare isn't big enough to clear the caliper, and it's grinding on it. If you'd swapped the spare for a rear alloy, and then put that on the front you would have been OK, the rear caliper is smaller".

Does anyone know what offset is required, or should I just go into the dealer and ask?

What size tyres/wheels have you got?

I have a Steel 15'' spare wheel with a 185 60 15 tyre on it from my Fabia III.

Are you anywhere near N Dorset?

Thanks. AG Falco

Sorry, nowhere near N Dorset, I'm in Grimsby.

The alloys on the car are black 5JA601025B's 16". Tyres are 215/45/16.

I've seen single used alloys of that type on eBay for only £70 without a tyre, and I'm tempted as the offset wouldn't be a problem. The only problem (apart from further cost) would be the wheel well isn't big enough to take a full sized alloy spare with the polystyrene gubbins on top, and have the board sit flat.

Put one of your wheels in the boot and see how it sits.

The Polystyrene part should fit inside the wheel with a 16'' rim.

Thanks. AG Falco

I'll give it a go at the weekend. I don't get home from work until it's dark, so I can't be bothered to do it on a weekday.

Thanks

The usual spare wheel specification for the Fabia MK3 is 185/60R15 6Jx15 ET38.

As you can see in the chart below, the 215/45R16 wheel is 18mm wider than the 185/60R15 wheel.

The 185/60R15 wheel fits in the wheel well, whereas the 215/45R16 wheel is probably too wide.

Actual inflated width of tyre (measured from sidewall to sidewall, at widest point)

185/60R15 6Jx15 ET38 195mm

215/45R16 7Jx16 ET46 213mm (18mm wider than 185/60R15)

If you remove one of existing alloy wheels it will have a part code identifier cast into the back of the wheel. Our Fabia has 15 inch wheels. I bought one off eBay which was sold by a car breakers, the tool kit was a separate purchase and the wheel retaining bolt was the final purchase from a Seat Ibiza.

I have the same problem with not having any spare. Might be a stretch as this thread was from a while ago but my Fabia has 16" alloys. Would the 15" steel be a suitable spare. Only asking as I am ND as well.

Thanks

The "rolling radius" of the 15" steel spare with that tyre size will be the same or near enough as the 16" factory fit wheels, so no problem, also the "off-set" will be correct.

Even with the bigger front disc brakes, the 15" steel spare will safely clear the callipers.

Edit:- just remember that you will need to source the correct 15" steel wheel.

The 15" ones that Skoda / VW sell or provide are also for Fabia with 17" or 18" Alloys & tyres.

Yes, as a temporary spare it would be good.

Thanks. AG Falco

Our Fabia has 15 inch Mato Alloy wheels and no spare. I managed to get an original matching Alloy wheel, the polystyrene moulding and tools (still wrapped) for an Audi A3 and the plastic securing fitting all from Ebay, different sellers. When I bought new tyres I had the best of the old ones put on the s[are alloy wheel. There are always wheels on Ebay. Take off an existing wheel and look for the part number cast on the inside and use that in the Ebay search.

Have you still got it by chance? Is it something you’d be up for selling?

Need one at some point in case, if I can get one local then even better.
