driveshaft puller / pusher

Featured Replies

Hi I think I need a driveshaft puller / pusher as I'm looking to easily remove them.

Currently not drifting out easily with light force hence I'm thinking they are better being pressed out more easily with a tool.

Any recommendations on such a tool ? Sealey Ak713 is one, or Draper 78588 cheaper version?

Principle is very similar to brake backing tool which I have, I just don't have thick metal sheet to go between the 2 wheel studs that would allow it to sit inbetween otherwise would do exactly the same job I think!

There are cheaper options that are similar to the Sealey one - that suits 4 and 5 stud/bolt hubs, I think that I just bought a “no name” one via ebay, a lot like the silver body one that ebay offers when you search for “hub puller”.

Cars are scornful of and do not respect "light force".

Have at it properly!

I mean I wacked at it with a socket extension and a club hammer a few strikes, not exactly light but didn't want to go too full guns blazing ! Bearing in mind it looks like its on a slight angle although I've tried prodding around with it at various angles and it had penetrating oil thrown at it y/day

On the clutch video unlike the manuals the order he does is removing from hub first seemingly drifting it out massively easily compared to me, I think he loosened them first. Also seeming to gap it slightly using his leg, I was doing the same as I didn't want to be putting force that went into the gearbox or CVJ itself, just to drift it out the hub

On the manual the instruction is to wedge out and remove the shaft from the GB first so maybe I should try that first?
As its a later step in workshop guide though does mention possibility of having to use extractor 3283 A too.

As they seem pretty fixed firm on this car I was thinking I already convinced myself it would probably benefit from adrive puller anyway

Yeah I could have a crack with one off ebay like item 395539524992, looks like it supports pcd 100x4 should be ok. Slightly more the Draper one too, but the cheaper generic china one does look to have superior design and a proper tapered to a point on the bolt and also adjustabloe fixing points.

Another option US PRO 5156 is also an almost identical domestic option ( seemingly sadly with little actual technical info and looks a little less flexible than the china counter part).

Alright this requirement is dusted now, £9.45 for ebay item 365432008742 which worked wonders
A good number of turns and it was off
Probably could have bashed the hell off of it, but this reduced any potential damage and also noise to surrounding area reduced and I can always sell it on later if I dont need it!
