Kodiaq - service and maintenance intervals

Featured Replies

Is there an easy way of obtaining accurate service and maintenance intervals for my 2022 2.0tdi 200 Sportline 4x4 DSG? It's particularly relating to the Haldex at the moment. My previous 2.0tdi was, I believe, every 30k miles, but dealer is now saying 2years for the current one (having not told me that before and it now being 3yrs old).

It's booked in for the oil change, and yes I know they won't clean the filter/sieve, but I want to confirm the correct intervals for warranty etc.

Missed year

I have a Karoq 4x4 (same Haldex I believe) which is now 3 years old and out of warranty so it's just had what might be its last main dealer service. Whilst discussing future servicing requirements with the (excellent) service staff, they told me the Haldex service interval was reduced to 2 years sometime in 2024.

Based on advice from a family member with a very low-mileage dealer-serviced Yeti 4x4 owned from new, I had an oil change done on my Karoq as an extra after only 1 year.

However, my understanding from the family 'expert' is that it is the filter change which is important and that is not included (or wasn't) in the service schedule. Happy to be proved wrong by those with superior knowledge.

Hi,

To me Haldex Service is every 3 years, whatever the mileage.

Never heard of / read about this reduction to 2 years. But I have to say I've never been to the dealer for this operation on my Superb Mk3 (MY17). I do it myself every 45000km, since I consider a mileage interval makes more sense than a time interval. I'm about to do it these days (now 135000km on the clock) and I do remove the Haldex pump to clean the strainer...

Just for info (note how dirty the strainer is after only 45000km, though my Haldex is probably not the most used):

Reducing the Haldex interval to 2 years could make sense, but it dealers still don't clean the strainer, it shouldn't bring that much, except money in ther pocket...

I don't know what has prompted the reduction in oil change interval. They can't use the same excuse as brake fluid changes - to align with their electric vehicles! Yes, you can instruct the dealer to clean the filter - I believe they do have a standard time for it. They will charge you extra but then oil changes on the Haldex and DSG are considered 'extras' (ie outside the standard service content) also.

As a retired Chartered Engineer, it bothers me that anyone would consider changing any lubricant in a mechanical system without doing anything to the associated filtration.

Having seen ours at three years when I did it myself for the first time, I decided to do it every other year thereafter. The "filter" is more of a "strainer", really. It's very coarse. Even then, it still gets loads of crud accumulating on it!

Wow! That seems a lot. Is this the first time after 3 years or after one year?

What do you think it is - hopefully not metallic - and how many miles had you done?

Looks like I need to motivate myself to do mine now I'm out of warranty.

A really useful picture. Thank you for sharing it.

No, the car is a 2017 car. We bought it when it was 3 years old. We asked the dealer to do it in April 2021, as there didn't seem to be any record of it having been done. We then drove around happily in our ignorance, but I started seeing posts on here (and elsewhere), about how dirty they got and how the dealers didn't usually bother cleaning the filter when they changed the Haldex oil, so in August 2023, I decided to do it myself, and that's what I found! So that represents (unless it was done properly by the previous owner), 6 years of crud, but only 44,000 miles. Here's another photo of it.

As far as I can tell, the gunge isn't metallic - certainly it's not ferrous. I think it's just bits of friction material from the clutch plates in the coupling?

Friction material would make sense to me.

I will be doing mine every 2 years from now on!

I tended to get the one on our Octavia 4x4 done every other service - so roughly every 25k to 30k miles or so and never had a problem so am following the same pattern with the Kodiaq. We got our 2018 car second hand with 18k on the clock and it had supposedly been fully serviced by the dealer so I had it done properly by an independent at 26k. It's recently had a second service with us at 40k so I'll get it done again next time round.

However, I'm confident it's working OK at the moment as a month or so back it was happily spinning all 4 wheels in the snow as my wife tried to get it off our uphill driveway.
