Strange sound system shenanigans

Featured Replies

Evening brothers.

Mk11 2010 170 cr

I fitted a aftermarket head unit last year and it's been ok. Few niggles as per usual with these aftermarket units but generally good.

However the sound has started playing silly buggers

Some days it's good no issues, then other days the sound will either go off completely or intermittently or play through just one speaker and then right itself, sometimes.

Oddly it will right itself when going around corners or out of junctions etc.

Has anybody else had similar issues ?

Not saying it's the head unit but not convinced it's the vehicle either.

Central locking also pleases itself which doors it will lock or unlock fortunately it doesn't affect the drivers door.

Any info Will be appreciated very much.

Will likely be driver's door loom with broken wire(s) in the short bundle of cables that site in rubber gaitor and jumps from door jamb to door body . It's pot luck which wires break and hence what starts playing up. Very common fault. Plenty on here re repairing loom or installing complete replacement loom which has been re-engineered with more slack to prevent the same damage in future

Thanks I'll have a look at it later.

Do you know where to get the upgraded harness from mate ?

Not sure if copy harnesses are available, mine was genuine part dealer fitted and there will be a slightly different part number to reflect revision. If you ask dealer for price it will be this latest version they offer. You can buy repair kits that you splice into existing loom in door to give new section and plug for outside door.

Search this forum for door loom and you'll find plenty of information (was how I know my loom was failing when one speaker in drivers door stopped working, not unique to the Superb 2, common fault in VAG cars of this vintage)

Hi, I've taken the door card off and the music is playing perfectly, so perhaps it's related to the small speaker by the internal door handle ?

Central locking still malfunctioning though (
