Spongey brakes?

Featured Replies

Does anybody else find their brakes need pumping to get the car to stop? I’ve tried pushing the pedal to slow down, and by pushing all the way in, the car still hasn’t fully stopped. Pumping the brakes seems the only way to wake them up and sometimes there’s a weird clunk noise. Is this just me, or has anyone else found this?

You clearly have a fault with your brakes, please, for the safety of yourself and other road users, have the brakes urgently checked by a competent mechanic.

Thank you, I’ll be booking it in on Monday!

Which model?

I have the 1.5 e-tec and the brakes are sadly lacking in feel. They work fine but are very difficult to modulate to a smooth stop.

I'm 65 years old and have been driving since I was 17, a Police advanced driver and motorcyclist. I know how to brake smoothly but these brakes are very odd in feel although they do work.

The OP reported that even with the brake pedal pushed all the way to the floor, the brakes are not fully applied - this is a serious fault requiring urgent repair - and quite different from any lack of feed-back or 'feel'

At first I thought this was just spongey brakes that lack feel, but as Warrior193 said, mine would seem a different issue. It’s going in on Thursday so will hopefully get the verdict. It’s the same model, a 1.5e-tec, and I’ve the same background as you and never encountered this before!

@Jus Do you have an update on your brake fault yet?
