Small oil leak from DSG on 3 year old car?

Featured Replies

My car has been in for its 3rd year service at the dealers today and they have highlighted an oil leak on the DSG. They are going to do a provisional check/investigation today with a view too seeing what looks to be the cause and a plan for repair.

I’m rather concerned that at 3 years old and 20k miles this leak is there. Is this something that could be a warranty claim or is it just something that can happen occasionally even at this youngish age?

That’s why you have a warranty. They will work out what the cause is and fix it. I wouldn’t be concerned unless they say “they all do that sir”

@WaveyDavey

I would share your concern if it were my car ...

Guessing you are the first owner ???

And is it still in warranty ???

Hopefully they can sort it and with a good explanation as to why the oil, to give you peace of mind...

Quick update..... I spoke with them about it when i collected it. It's not a big leak (no drips etc....) but looks like a small amount of oil seeping from somewhere. I raised my concerns about it and the age of the car and about warranty. It is obviously just out of it's original 3 year warranty but still has another year of approved used warranty remaining till April next year. From what they said if it's something as simple as a seal that has gone, (And relatively low cost repair), then the approved used warranty wouldn't cover that but if it was something more serious and they had to carry out extensive work then that would be covered under the warranty. So he summarized it as it should either a small cost job for me to pay for or a big expensive job for them to pay for.

It's booked back in in a couple of weeks to have it looked into fully.

Is the warranty only 3 years? It's 5 in New Zealand and now 7 in Australia

Yes just 3 years in the UK for the original warranty.... When buying it as a Skoda Approved Used car you get up to a year of approved used warranty and roadside assistance/recovery (Depending on how old the vehicle is). Or sometimes there are offers which give you 2 years approved used warranty if you purchase via PCP (which is what I did).

So in my instance I bought the car when it was 26 months old via Skoda PCP and received 2 years Approved Used warranty, 2 years roadside assistance and a 2 service service pack. (You can settle the PCP when you want and keep those things) So in reality i got 10 months of the original warranty then 14 months approved used warranty.
