I noticed today that the rear tyres on my Mk1 Fabia vRS are just starting to get low. So a replacement in the next few months is a certainty.

I have Vredestein Ultrac on the front and Goodyear Efficientgrip on the back. I was planning on changing the back to Ultracs however the wear has been really quite rapid. They are a very soft compound. The Goodyear are Ok but as they have worn they have got very noisy.

So thinking about moving over to PS5's. Any thoughts welcome.

Obviously I have no idea how you drive and you may not drive your VRS in a spirited or verry spirited way (allowing for sensible driving within the law and state of our 3rd-world roads) but you've got a VRS so you might be used to driving with the likes Ultracs and if you swap to a different tyre you might have to rein in a bit, and if you done that you might get more miles out of the Ultracs. 😁

The model of Efficientgrip you have must be different to the ones I once had to be happy with on a performance variety of a model and of course reviews and reports of such things can be often relative and subjective.

Sorry I've never used Pilot Sports but did notice in another thread that PS3 were still available (can't remember size) sometimes earlier models of tyres are better than later or current models.

I currently have Pilot Sport 5s on my car, having worn through a set of Uniroyal Rainsport 5s in about a year.

I happened to get a very good deal on mine, had I not found such a good deal, I'd probably have bought Falken Azenis FK520s

I run PS5s all round on my Mk3 Octavia VRS. Fantastic tyre, can't fault it to be honest! Gets the power down just fine, and feels very stable at high speed whilst being reasonably quiet.

I'm normally quite on it with tyre posts - must have missed this.

Looking at this section of UHP summer tyre, you're looking at Conti SC/PC7, Asy 6 or PS4/5.

I prefer the Michelin brand, so have used Pilot Sport 4, 4S and now 5. PS4S and PSS5 are totally overkill for anything made by VW group, let alone Skoda (aside from maybe an RS6 or R8). PS4 and PS5 are the same tyre, except that PS5s are a firmer compound that performs marginally better in the dry, and lasts longer.

I've currently got about 8,000 miles on my PS5s and I'm not looking to replace them anytime soon. This has been a mixture of sedate driving, motorway miles, as well as plenty of A and B roads in a 350bhp vRS.

They are still a UHP tyre, so they will not last as long as more balanced tyres. That said, they are the best wearing performance tyre I've used (with reference to cost, performance and wear).

Over-engineering is always preferable to just-enough engineering IMO, which is why my Asy 6's are Y speed rated.
