Electric Window issue 2011 Fabia S - any ideas ?

Featured Replies

I have an odd issue with the front passenger side electric window, it will initially go down fine (from both switches) but will only come up in 1-2 cm increments (2-3 times) you then have to drop it down slightly before it will then come another 2-3 increments. after about 3 goes of this cycle it refuses to move in either direction (from either switch). you wait 3-4 minutes and then it will allow you to start the cycle again.

I've replaced the switch (as i had a spare knocking around & just in case it fixed it) but no joy. has anyone experienced this issue before / got any ideas what it might be before i take the plunge and take it to the garage and say "please fix this"

Any help or ideas gratefully received as this is driving me NUTS.

Thanks

Jamie

spelling mistake

Might be a problem with drivers motor/control unit. On the MK1 the drivers motor controls the passenger side. Sons one passenger side failed closely followed by drivers side.

It could also be a failing seized window regulator or motor on the passenger side. The passenger side can seize up as it normally doesn't get used so often.

Does the pasenger side work? The drivers side motor is also a controler for the pasenger side.

Nope but thankfully BREEZY PETE is going to try to fix it 😀

He fixed my sons. Excellent service. Hope yours wasn't stuck down like his.

Ta.

Your passenger side motor is part number 6R0959801P.

I suspect, given the symptoms, that the relay on the little tiny circuit board inside it has developed worn/burnt contacts for the 'up' direction of motor rotation.

New replacement of whole motor is >£200 from Skoda, so not recommended.

I could replace the relay for you, but the cost of secondhand ones on ebay may be cheaper, e.g. this one, from a similar age same model: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314929997322

Obviously, 2nd hand ones may have similar or other issues, but I think this generation of motors is reasonably reliable compared to some.

The other thing probably worth doing, if there's any crustiness to be found, is to give the outer seal at the bottom of the passenger window pane a good clean-up to reduce friction. Old toothbrush and warm water with a touch of washing up liquid will probably suffice.
