Sorry to be leaving our wonderful 1.5 DSG but, owing to my and the boss's advancing years and not wanting to miss out on the experience we decided to replace the Karoq with an electric vehicle - Vauxhall Mokka-e Ultimate.

Choosing the Mokka-e (23 reg) boiled down, for the most part, to the controls for climate/heating and infotainment being knobs and buttons versus touch screen which is almost universal in the competition. I've included 'for the most part' because in the test drives there was nothing of any real significance between the Mokka-e, MG4., VWID3 in terms of acceleration/ride/comfort. Where the Mokka-e prevailed was how unbelievably quiet and refined it was - yes, even more refined than the Karoq and that's saying something. The most extraordinary aspect of this refinement is the almost total absence of tyre noise

Downsides: Much smaller boot. Significantly less leg room in rear. No rear of cabin illumination - yep, hard to believe.

Upsides. Instant acceleration of course. Reduction in running costs. Zero emissions.

Anyway, we really did enjoy our times with the Karoq and previous Kamiq.

Good luck to all. We might need it considering the current Trump turmoil.

Were you tempted, at all, to try the Elroq?

Had a quick look but too few available near me. Also, the PCP deals were way more expensive than those for the Mokka-e.

This being my first electric I was erring on the side of caution - just in case I fell out of love with it.

Might visit the Elroq at end of PCP.

@fabill Have you a home charger installed and an EV tariff for charging at home?

Nope.

I’m using the granny charger supplied by the dealer. I have a 13A socket in garage. This provides 2.2kw/h. Okay, that’s not a lot but more than sufficient, as we charge twice a week for 12 hours. We don’t have a tariff that gives reduced overnight rate. It’s not worth it owing to the rate out with the reduced rate period.

We have an Audi TT Roadster which we can use for trips where the Mokka-e might require a recharge. Public charging way too costly.

Eon Next v6 Drive tariff is 6.7 pence a kWh for 7 hours and 25 pence a kWh standard tariff.

You can fix for 12 months.

I use this with my 3 pin cable and get 17 kWh at the cheap rate per night.

When i had a Corsa Electric i seldom charged at home as i got free charging mostly and did 60,000 miles for £600 or so.

I used the 3 pin cable plugged in to pre condition in winter.

For cheaper out and about charging TESLA non TESLA is pretty much the cheapest Rapid or Ultra Rapid charging since you have 100 kW charging.

50 - 60 pence a kWh charging publicly is maybe double your home charging but with your home charge and then public for topping up you will be the same cost as getting around 45 mpg with a petrol car.

50 kWh @ 6.7 pence = £3.35

50 kWh @ 26 pence = £13.00

50 kWh @ 55 pence = £27.50 If getting 3.5 miles to a kWh then 50 kWh = 175 miles.

£27.50 divided by £6.00 a gallon = 4.6 gallons. (132 pence a litre at present.)

175 miles & 4.6 gallons is 38 mpg.

With Octopus our rate is 20.79p/kwh. Octopus Go is circa 7p for 4.5 overnight hours and 27.5 outwith. Not worth changing when using granny.

Just had a look at Mokka-es on AutoTrader, under £17k for a pre-reg & delivery mileage car, almost half list price. And I even like the bright green colour. 🤣

I did mention it to Mrs DSL (her car is getting on a bit at almost 14 years old) but she didn’t show any sign of interest at all. ☹️

You should, though.

Go have a test drive. It’s quite an eye opener.

Unfortunately I need some interest from Mrs DSL. She knows I’m subtly hinting bit not biting.

She does ( wearing of trousers) and mouse (man or) before anyone asks. 🤣

@DSL Where you are best not. You would be replacing discs annually as they would be rusting that badly and as for Arnold Clark if you had to use them, then next to useless and if it needs recovered it is epic.

They would even try to sell you Fuel Treatment as a special deal at servicing time.
