Rear window spoiler loose on Skoda Superb Estate Mk3

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I suddenly noticed that the rear window spoiler (sorry if that's the wrong word for it) on my Skoda Superb Estate Mk3 (2017 reg) has come loose on the left hand side & urgently needs to be re-attached.

Can I do this myself? Someone suggested Tiger Seal but warned: "but if you ever need to take it off again, you'll end up destroying the spoiler ..."

Is there a VW/Skoda fixing kit? Cost? Would the advice be to get it done properly by someone who knows what they're doing?!

Thanks very much in advance for any advice.

It looks like double sided tape?

To be honest you can pull that off as it’s not a factory fitted one at all

Does an aftermarket add-on spoiler like that not mask the high-level brake light?

Yes, the brake light is integrated (see new pics attached).

Update: Not a very positive reply from kopacek.com:

"Hello, this product is original Skoda product for which we strongly recommend professional installation.

We don´t have any installation kit available.

Contact any local garage.

Regards, Magdalena"

So... any ideas, folks? Any permanent - or temporary - DIY/official solutions? (note: I need to blast up the motorway this Saturday.... gaffer tape?!)

Thanks!

I'm looking at "3M Double sided Acrylic Foam Tape CP5108 Automotive Tape" which is 5mm wide x 3 metres long but ionly 0.8mm thick, which seems much thinner than the original strip of adhesive - it seems to be about 3mm thick. Am I on the right track with this sort of tape? Thanks.

That’s rather unhelpful, like I said earlier I’d remove it personally for now until you know for sure the best way to fit correctly.

If it is Skoda part then you should be able to remove it easy enough and still use original connectors and give both sides a decent clean

Thanks Danoid

I asked Kopacek for a pdf (i.e. installation guide) for the product, but they haven't replied. There are 2 cables* from the spoiler to the car and I'd like to get some info on how to unplug them so I can safely take off the spoiler to clean it. Do I have to take off the panels inside the tailgate to get to the connectors? I just don't want to break anything! I've searched online and found nothing.

*Is RHS brake power and LHS rear washer water supply? (see pic)

I suspect you will need to take the cover off from the inside then you’ll be able to disconnect power and washer line

Can you see the original 3rd brake light behind? I’m hoping previous person didn’t just remove it when fitting the new one and discarded it.

Be good if you have the two original mini spoilers which original has and do away with the spoiler (unless you like it)

I did take the internal tailgate panels off, but it turns out that I didn't need to - but good practice anyway! Both the electrical and water supply fittings just pop out of the roof externally.

The spoiler appears to have been glued on with some kind of black gunk / mastik, rather than an adhesive strip - and it's much thicker than most of the 3m double sided tape that I've seen, which are about 1mm thick. Also, there is a clear track / indentation / furrow moulded into the spoiler where the adhesive / tape needs to go, so 1mm is never going to be thick enough. It needs to be about 2 or 3 mm thick, otherwise it won't bridge the gap between car and spoiler. So...

  • Is there a thicker 3m spoiler tape which is suitable?

  • Alternatively, is there a tube of adhesive which is suitable (despite the original becoming unstuck...)

  • It looks as though it's going to be really difficult to fit as the spoiler fits into a wedge-shaped nook, so any tape could get stuck quite easily in the wrong position!

Thanks very much for any help!

Do you actually want it? Personally I much prefer the OE style with the two mini spoilers at either end, but yours was probably removed by the previous owner

If you don intend on using it I’m sure you could drop into a local body shop repair and have a word, I just imagine they’ll charge too much
